“The first half of this research was presented at the IET International Conference on Frontier Computing, Theory, Technologies and Applications (conference paper title: A novel histogram equalization for image contrast enhancement with mean brightness preservation). As such, it represents a truncated version of the research work, the extension version of which has been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence (paper title: Image contrast enhancement for preserving mean brightness without losing image features). Prof. Shih-Chia Huang and Dr. Chien-Hui Yeh are responsible for the planning, design, and execution the journal version.
