It has been brought to the attention of the Editors and Publisher that there was a signi®cant omission in the references of the above paper. The 1997 Ph.D. Thesis of Dr. Abdul-Kadir Dogan entitled ``Petrov±Galerkin ®nite element methods'' (University of Wales (Bangor)) should be cited in the reference list. Large parts of Chapter 8 of the Thesis (A least-squares quadratic B-spline ®nite element scheme for the RLW equation) are common to the above _ Dag. paper, and this should have been acknowledged by the author, I.
