Creation of The European Federation of Marine Scienceand Technology Societies (EFMS) At the Znstihd Ocbunogruphique in Paris on Friday 11 December 1998, the elected presidents of societies and companies in European marine science and technology, whose names are given below, signed the Act of Creation of the European Federation of Marine Science and Technology Societies (EFMS). This was done in the presence of observers from other societies and of Mr. Jean Boissonnas, representative of European Commission’s DGXII and Mr. Laurent d’Ozouville of the European Marine and Polar Science Secretary (EmaPS), an activity of the European Science Foundation. According to the statutes, the objectives of the Federation are to: - contribute to the advancement of research and education in Marine Science and Technology and - disseminate information to promote the advancement of Marine Science and Technology in Europe. For these purposes the Federation undertakes to: a) address jointly European issues of common interest; b) make known the conceptions and needs of its members; c) promote the development of marine science and technology; d) promote the contribution of marine science and technology to the European Union research programmes; e) assist the European Union to obtain technical advice from the members of the Federation; f) provide a permanent network between the Marine Science and Technology Societies and a common, but not unique, gateway to each of the Marine Science and Technology Societies and their national networks. The affairs of the Federation shall be conducted by a Council assisted by an Executive Committee. The Council will consist of one delegate from each Constituent Country.
