OOOO Volume 120, Number 2 PCC-146 - BROWN TUMOR OF THE MANDIBLE IN A PATIENT WITH HYPERPARATHYROIDISM SECONDARY TO CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE. KATYANA MEDEIROS DE ARAÚJO, ASSIS FILIPE MEDEIROS ALBUQUERQUE, ADRIANO ROCHA GERMANO, JOSÉ SANDRO PEREIRA DA SILVA, MARIANA CABRAL MORENO, SÁ MELKA COÊLHO, ROSEANA DE ALMEIDA FREITAS. UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO RIO GRANDE DO NORTE. Brown tumor can result from alteration of the bone metabolism in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) associated with secondary hyperparathyroidism. A 28-year-old male presented with a hard, asymptomatic, expansive mass, in the body of the mandible that evolved over the course of 3 months. He had a 7-year history of idiopathic CRF and hemodialysis. Radiography and computed tomography showed an extensive radiolucent lesion with bone resorption and cortical expansion. The diagnostic hypotheses were ameloblastoma and brown tumor. An incisional biopsy revealed a giant cell lesion. The patient underwent parathyroidectomy and is under monitoring, by laboratory tests, for the future total excision of the lesion. This case report highlights the importance of including the dental surgeon in the multidisciplinary health care team in the care of patients with CRF, because this professional plays a fundamental role in maintaining the oral health of patients undergoing renal transplantation.

PCC-147 - CARNOY’S SOLUTION AS AN ADJUNCT THERAPY: 2 CASE REPORTS AND LITERATURE REVIEW. KALYNE KELLY NEGROMONTE GONÇALVES, BELMIRO CAVALCANTI DO EGITO VASCONCELOS, EMANUEL SÁVIO DE SOUZA ANDRADE, PRISCILLA FLORES SILVA, JIMMY CHARLES MELO BARBALHO, KALLENA SÉLYS QUINTO NUNES, LUCAS ALEXANDRE DE MORAIS SANTOS. FACULDADE DE ODONTOLOGIA DE PERNAMBUCO e UPE. Carnoy’s solution is used in the auxiliary treatment of maxillofacial tumors. It is applied to reduce the recurrence rate of unicystic ameloblastoma, which presents aggressive behavior, slow growth, and a recurrence rate of 10e25%. The use of Carnoy’s solution is designed to eliminate remaining tumor tissue and promote a superficial chemically induced necrosis. Two patients, 26 and 35 years of age, respectively, underwent enucleation of unicystic ameloblastoma followed by application of Carnoy’s solution. In both cases, there was favorable bone repair. At 4 years after the surgery, neither patient showed signs of recurrence. The use of Carnoy’s solution appears to be an effective auxiliary method, without significant adverse effects, for the treatment of unicystic ameloblastoma.

PCC-148 - CUTANEOUS HORN: A RARE LESION ON THE LOWER LIP. UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO PARANÁ. Cutaneous horn is an exophytic keratinized lesion related to sun exposure or burns that most often occurs on the face. Although it is recognized as a slow-growing benign condition, it has also been described as potentially malignant lesion. Only a

ABSTRACTS Abstracts e53 few cases of cutaneous horn of the lip have been described in the literature. A 74-year-old male sought treatment at an oral medicine service, complaining of an “unaesthetic injury” on the lower lip. He presented with an asymptomatic exophytic lesion and could not describe its evolution precisely. Physical examination revealed a brown, firm, well-circumscribed keratinized conical projection, with a 6-mm base on the lower lip semimucosa. An excisional biopsy was performed, and histopathological analysis showed hypertrophic actinic keratosis. After 1 year of follow-up, the lesion had not recurred. The patient was kept under close clinical monitoring and was advised to avoid sun exposure.

PCC-149 - LONG-TERM FOLLOW-UP OF ORAL LESIONS IN A CHRONIC MYELOID LEUKEMIA PATIENT AFTER ALLOGENEIC BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTATION. ALLANA PIVOVAR, CAMILA PINHEIRO FURQUIM, LAURA GREIN CAVALCANTI, CASSIUS CARVALHO TORRES-PEREIRA. UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO PARANÁ. Before the introduction of imatinib, allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) was a common indication for chronic myeloid leukemia. One common complication of allogeneic HSCT is graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). In the oral mucosa, GVHD is considered a risk factor for malignant transformation. This report describes a 48-year-old HSCT recipient who developed multifocal and refractory oral leukoplakias associated with a severe multiorgan chronic GVHD involving the skin, eyes, lungs, and oral mucosa. Oral lesions manifested as lichenoid alterations or homogeneous leukoplakia that gradually enlarged and developed a proliferative verrucous surface. The follow-up consisted in visual inspection, frequent oral cytology smears, and biopsies. Long-term post-HSCT survivors must be periodically screened for oral lesions. The risk for malignant transformation of oral lesions is increased in older patients with persistent chronic GVHD who have been on long-term immunosuppression therapy.

PCC-150 - CLINICAL AND RADIOGRAPHIC ASPECTS OF OROANTRAL COMMUNICATIONS AND TREATMENT WITH BUCCAL FAT PAD: CASE REPORT. CLAUDJANE ALMEIDA DOS SANTOS, DEYVANNE MYRTHES PEREIRA SILVEIRA, HUGO FRANKLIN LIMA DE OLIVEIRA, ISABELLE SARMENTO ROSA VIEIRA, WALKYRIA DE OLIVEIRA ABREU, MARCOS VINICIUS DE VASCONCELOS FEITOSA BORGES, CAMILA MARIA BEDER RIBEIRO. CENTRO UNIVERSITÁRIO CESMAC. Oroantral communications (OCs) are pathological spaces created between the oral cavity and maxillary sinus. Usually they originate from maxillary teeth. Here, we report the case of a 53-year-old female whose chief complaint was a normochromic swelling that occurred after a tooth extraction 1 year earlier, presenting with purulent exudates and regionally associated pain. Radiographically, we observed a loss of continuity in the maxillary sinus floor, with slight radiopacity and opacification of the sinus in the edentulous upper left region. On the basis of the radiographic and clinical examination, the diagnostic hypothesis was OC due to previous dental extraction. The treatment proposed consisted of closing the fistula using the buccal fat body in order to support epithelial growth and ultimately obliterate the pathological space. In this report, we elucidate the clinical and radiological aspects of, as well as discussing the current treatment options for, OCs.
