Degussa-Hfils boosts UV stabilizer intermedates
Atofina
Degussa-Htils is expanding its capacity for triacetone amine (TAA) and derivatives, a raw material for the production of UV stabilizers. The Euro 12 million investment will double production capacity to meet an increase in world demand. The new facility is planned for the company's Marl site and will start production at the middie of next year. The company says that the expansion will enable it to offer the market a secured raw material base for UV stabilizers. Degussa-Hiils says that its Fine Chemicals Division has developed extensive know-how in the manufacture of TAA and its derivatives, such as triacetone diamine (TAD), hexamethylene-bis-triacetone diamine (HMBTAD) and TEMPO compounds (tetramethyl piperidine N-oxyl). As well as the classic application for these intermediate products in the manufacture of UV stabilizers, the company says that there are also potential applications as inhibitors or catalysts. The company has recently expanded its range of TEMPO derivatives with two new products.
