Dentistry on Stamps new stam p h o n o rin g dentistry has been issued by India on the occasion of the 13th A sian-Pacific D ental Congress held in New Delhi from Jan 28 to Feb 1, 1988. In addition, a first-day cover and a special cancellation were made available. T h e A sian-Pacific Congress is a part of the Federation D entaire In tern atio n ale. In 1954, d u rin g the E ig h th India D ental Association m eeting, Professor M atsumiya suggested a jo in t conference of the Asian countries. T h e first conference of the A sian-Pacific D ental Federation took place in T okyo in 1955. T h e Federation has continued to meet at 3-year intervals in various Asian countries since 1955. T he members of the Federation include: A ustralia, Burma, G uam , H o n g Kong, In d ia, In d o n esia, Ja p a n , Korea, M alaysia, New Z ealand, P ak istan , P h ilip p in es, Singapore, and T h ailan d . A pproxim ately 3,000 persons attended the 13th Congress; its slogan was, “ H ealthy teeth m ean a healthy body.” T h e m ajor topics discussed were esthetic dentistry and public health dentistry in developing countries. T here were 40 scientific sessions on the congress program w ith three sim ultaneous sessions. Preconference courses on porcelain and partial dentures were also scheduled. A trade fair w ith more than 75 participants from around the w orld was held in conjunction w ith the congress. T h e 400-paise stam p shows a sm iling ru ral youth. T h e design was prepared by Shri M. D. Sharm a. T h e m ulticolor stam p was produced by photogravure an d was printed by the India Security Press. Overall size is 3.91 x 2.90 cm w ith p rin tin g size of 3.55 x 2.54 cm and perforation is 13 x 13. T he first-day cover shows a dentist at work w ith m odern equipm ent.
