NEWS The BioBooster facility will treat all domestic wastewater, which accounts for 60–70% of the factory’s wastewater. Other wastewater treatment technologies, as well as rainwater harvesting technology, will provide the additional steps towards a closed loop where the industrial facility will operate with minimal water footprint. As a group, Grundfos is aiming to halve its own water consumption by 2025 and save 50 billion m3 of fresh water by 2030 (see Filtration Industry Analyst, August 2019). “We have made a big investment here in Indjija because it is the right thing to do. As a company, we have an obligation to be first movers and clean our own water – to keep order in our own house so to speak. I am confident this can be a major inspiration within our company and to other companies as well,” said Veljko Todorović, plant director, Grundfos Serbia. “This is a major milestone, and I want to thank everyone who has helped make this possible. We are the first to implement this technology in the area, we want to inspire and help take care of the environment in the whole region. We hope to continue our great working relationship with the local authorities in this respect,” said Stéphane Simonetta, group executive vice president, COO, Grundfos. The Indjija production site produces more than 4 million pump units per year and is Grundfos’s third largest production facility. For further information, visit www.grundfos.com
LiqTech seals BS Plastic acquisition
L
iqTech International Inc has acquired Danish plastics manufacturer BS Plastic A/S (see Filtration Industry Analyst, August 2019). The acquisition will allow LiqTech to in-source certain components of its proprietary ceramic silicon carbide water filtration systems for closed loop marine scrubber applications. BS Plastic was founded in 1958 as a provider of machined and welded plastic parts and is currently a supplier of plastic components to LiqTech. Recently, BS Plastic has focused on parts for the prepress, UV and aquaculture market segments. “The acquisition of BS Plastic advances one of the key components to the margin optimisation program the company laid out at the beginning of this year – the in-sourcing 4

of certain manufacturing activities,” said Sune Mathiesen, CEO of LiqTech International. “By bringing the manufacturing of certain plastic tanks and machined plastics products for our water filtration systems in-house, we expect to save upwards of US$1 million annually based on our current production levels, with more significant savings in the years to come as volumes increase.” LiqTech paid approximately US$1.4 million upfront for BS Plastics, with an additional US$900 000 possible through earnouts over the next three years. LiqTech funded the acquisition from cash on hand. Based on expected improvement to gross profits from the acquisition as well as contributions from BS Plastics’ other operations, LiqTech expects a return on investment in around one year.
