New Patents A permselective membrance suitable for obtaining fresh water by the desalination of sea water and salt water is provided herein, said permselective membrane being prepared by the reaction of an aromatic polycarboxylic acid component with a mixed diamine component comprising a diaminodiphenylsulfone compound of the formula (I), See Patent for Chemical Structure (I) wherein R 1 is hydrogen atom or a C1£14 C + H D 12 + L hydrocarbon group, R + HU 2 + L s may be same or different, each representing a monovalent organic group, and n is an integer of 0 or 1 to 3, and an alicyclic diamine compound containing two secondary amino groups in the same or different ring(s) is hydrogen atom or a C + HD 1 + L + 14 C + H D 12 + L hydrocarbon group, R + H U 2 + L s may be same or different, each representing a monovalent organic group, and n is an integer of 0 or 1 to 3, and an alicyclic diamine compound containing two secondary amino groups in the same or different ring(s).
A complaint offshore platform in which the primary restoring force to lateral displacement is established by flex piles driven into the seafloor and fixedly secured to the platform legs a preselected distance above the seafloor. The platform includes a substantially rigid space-frame structure extending from the ocean bottom to a position above the ocean surface. A drilling and production deck is secured atop the space-frame structure. Shear piles extend through the base of the space-frame structure to prevent lateral displacement of the base while permitting the spaceframe structure to pivot about its base. As the platform sways about its base in response to environmental forces, the flex piles establish a vertical couple at the location at which they are attached to the space frame structure. This couple resists movement of the platform away from a vertical orientation. In the preferred embodiment, the flex piles are secured to the platform at or near one-half the total height of the space-frame structure.
4695787 DEVICE FOR DETECTING AND LOCATING PENETRATION OF WATER INTO A MARINE ACOUSTIC STREAMER Daniel Billet, Jean F Cesarini, St Paul De Vence, France assigned to Thomson CSF A device for detecting water penetration into a marine acoustic streamer with segments interconnected by connectors. Each connector positioned between any two adjacent segments is provided with sensors which are constituted by flexible printed circuits having two distinct and interleaved conductive combs thereon. A bifilar line interconnects the sensors, and an emitting and receiving circuit allows a sensor whose impedance has been changed by the infiltration of water into the connector to be located by means of a reflectrometric method, whereby the operating condition of such marine acoustic streamer can be supervised efficiently and at low cost.

4697374 BIOLUMINESCENT SIMULATOR AND METHOD Robert A Simms A bioluminescent simulator for useas an underwater attractant for aquatic creatures, such as fish and crab, is in the form of a power supply, monostable multivibrator, and a green lightemitting diode, all potted in a clear acrylic epoxy potting material with an on/off power supply switch constituting a pair of spaced-apart conductive lugs extending out of the potted housing. The housing is waterproof and the lugs permit power to be supplied from the power supply to the light source when a conductive switching bar is slipped over the lugs and tightened them. The switching bar has on tie-on rings on the opposite ends to permit the simulator to be tied to a fishing line, crab pot, or the like.
4698516 HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER PLANT Douglas A Thompson, St Ann, Jamaica A hydro-electric power plant specifically structured to operate in connection with a water reservoir supplied from a natural body of water such as an ocean, lake, etc. and which is structured to
