DIAGWSIS OF DEEP VEIKXS THRCNWSIS : VALLE OF REALTIMEBWDE ULTRASGUND IMAGINGANDCONTINKZSWAVEDOPPLER (ECHOGRAPHy-DOPPLER) CWAREDTO VENXRAPHy. A.Elias,G.Iecorff, J.L.Bouvier,M.B@nichou,A. Serradimigni, Servicede Cardiologie,C.H.U. Timme, 13385,Marseille,Cedex - France. The authors cmpared resultsof Echographydoppler (ED)and vencgraphyin patients suspectedof isolateddeep venous thrmkmis of the lower limbs (221) or associatedwith pulmonaryenboli (76 ). Continouswave doppler (MEDASCNICSBF4A)is sytemtically coupledwith real time echography~IASONICS DRF 400). AscendingVeqraphy and ilio-cavography is performedbilaterally. The resultsof the590 legs scannedare represented
have discrepanciesin 27 legs.Thisis more often noted in distal vein thrombosis. If we refer to venographyas the gold standard, sensitivityof ED is 98 % and specificity95 %. In proximalveins, sensitivityis excellent (loo%), whatever the topography(popliteal, fermral, iliac or inferiorvena cava, extendedor not) and whatever the degree of occlusion (ccmpleteor partial)
149 A STUDY OF THE ANTI-THROMBOTIC POTENTIAL OF A LOW MOLECULAR WRIGHT HEPARIN FRAGMENT CY222 GIVEN INTRAVENOUSLY TO NORMAL VOLUNTEERS. R.V. Johnston, M. Orr, P. Johnson, C.D. Forbes. University Dept. of Medicine, Royal Infirmary, 10 Alexandra Parade, Glasgow.G31 2ER, U.K. Studies on heparin fractions have shown a molecular size dependency of the anticoagulant activity. We studied the effect of CY222, a heparin fragment with a mean molecular weight of 2,500 daltons, on the coagulation mechanism and platelet function of normal volunteers after i.v. injection. In addition we examined the reversibility of these effects with protamine sulphate. Standard heparin and saline were used as positive and negative controls. CY222 in doses ranging from 5,000 - 25,000 anti Xa units (500 2,500 U USP) produced a significant increase (p (0.001) in anti-Xa activity by both clotting and amidolytic assays maximal at 20 minutes after injection. There was also a significant (p
