Updated SNA communications server A local area network gateway that lets personal computers, 3270-type displays and ASCII terminals and printers operate in an IBM 3270 SNA environment, via Ethernet, token ring or broadband LANs, has been launched by Bridge Communications. Bridge's Communications Server/ I-SNA is an enhanced version of the original CS/1 -SNA introduced previously for Ethernet LANs. The Server/1-SNA is the first Bridge product to incorporate the MC68020 32-bit microprocessor, doubling former capacity to let networked devices share up to 48 host sessions. The upgraded CS/1-SNA supports both the TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Procotol) and XNS (Xerox Network Systems)
high-level protocol sets. The CS/1-SNA allows LANattached users to participate fully in an IBM 3270 SNA environment, accessing 3270 applications,
Network software support for PS/2 3Com Corporation has announced an updated version of its 3+ network software that supports all IBM Personal System/2 computers, both as network workstations and servers. 3+ 1.2.1 is compatible with IBM's Token Ring Micro Channel adapters and guarantees 3+ compatibilitywith DOS 3.X and Netbios applications
Dial-up data security system An advanced data security system which is designed to provide convenient, secure dial-up access to any mainframe, mini or micro computer for an unlimited number of authorized users has been introduced by Sygnus Data Communications. The Data Guard 4000 Lock & Key System consists of a 'lock' at the central site which can only be accessed by authorized remote users. It is designed to provide high levels of protection against even the most determined hacker, while at the same time making access for authorized users both simpler and quicker. The system is fully expandable to accommodate up to 4096 incoming lines and can be connected to any synchronous or asynchronous network, regardless of protocol. The Data Guard 4000 Lock simultaneously supports a number of different, proven authentication techniques, including automatic algorithm comparison, password callback, random password generation and data encryption. This ensures the

transferring files to and from IBM hosts, and establishing and switching sessions between multiple IBM and ASCII hosts. The availability of multiple concurrent open sessions lets users toggle back and forth between hosts at will. (Bridge Communications Inc., 2081 5tierlin Road, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. maximum level of system design flexibility. The Data Guard 4000 Lock is installed at a central site, and is connected between the host computer ports and the modems. It constantly monitors all incoming lines, each of which is electronically
running on PS/2 models 30, 50, 60 and 80 in a token ring environment. 3+ also gives token ring workgroups the ability to communicate and share applications with Ethernet and AppleTalk workgroups. The Data Guard 4000 Lock & Key system provides a summary of all line and system activity via a hard copy audit trail. This includes details of all access attempts and statistics on line usage.
