Hangzhou, China Nme pathologically studied cases of this rare parasitic drsease collected during 1950’s to 1980’s in Shanghai and Chungqing arc reported. In China we have to emphasize Ihe distmction between the etiopathological diagnosis and presumpuve pathologIca diagnosis of this disease and the sigmficance of its diffcrcntlal diagnons. The reason is that these parasitic pathogens used to be faded away entirely from the lesions in the majority of these cases (6 out of 9). In only 3 cases the precious pathognamonic relics _- the calcified cuticlechtmous oral parts of the pentastomids - had been found in those typical granulomatous lesions, however, the ldenbtication of those characteristic oral parts could only be traced to tbe Armrllr/er sp. Therefore. m most cases, the presumptive pathological diagnoses of ths disease were necessary. They wele made by a series of ‘specific’ pathological characteristics, such as the protuberant ‘pearls’ (sclerotic nodules), the concentric laminations of calcification (targetoid appearance) in a focus of caseous necrosw and the relalively specitic distributional pattern In the differential diagnosis the possibilities of tuberculosis, Pick’s drsease; and the diseases caused by other parasites, such as C~SI~CWCUS cellulose, S’arganum, Echrnococcus granubsus and Diplera larva should be ruled out. To our knowledge the case of pcntaslomiotrc myocarditis might be considered as the first report in the literature The lymphohematogenaus spread of their primary larvae might be responsible for this rntracardlac mvolvemenl.
