Industrial simulations run on home computers The MAT385 microprocessor applications trainer and a series of applications modules that simulate the action of a number of industrial applications which are designed to demonstrate the interaction between computers and external devices are now available from Feedback Instruments, Crowborough, U K.
There are eight applications modules; automatic washing machine, project board, stepping motor, temperature control, traffic light control, binary I/O, diesel generator and multifunction I/O board. Prices range from £45 to £132 for each module. (Feed-

Drive applications modules The MAT385 is based on the Intel 8085 with a small amount of ROM and RAM storage sufficient for driving the applications modules. The modules and interfaces for computer applications, the MICA 950/940, series are compatible with the PET, AIM65, Apple II, ABC80, TRS80 and 380Z. The prices range from about £70 {PET) to £107 (ABC80).

periodic measurements over seconds, minutes, hours or days to generate statistical data catching of intermittent voltage or current problems by automatic circuit monitoring plotting of the effects of power supply drift vs time, temperature or input voltage monitoring and/or control of temperatu re related functions such as solar projects, greenhouse control, water heating, etc monitoring and/or control of the pressure of gases or liquids monitoring the effects of stress
Software drivers (i.e. low level routines to obtain numerical data) are provided for each computer system leaving the user to write an application program. The peJ'sonal computer interface is included in the price of £165. (Black Star Ltd, 9a Crown Street, St Ives, Huntingdon, Cambs PEI 7 4EB, UK. Tel: (0480) 62440)
Waterproof microcomputer A waterproof industrial microcomputer has been introduced by MorganSmith Electronics Ltd, Hatfield, UK. The 'Muse' can be supplied with either the 6802 or 6809 main processor containing up to 2 kbytes RAM and 8 kbytes ROM. The processor card is designed as a single-card computer with I/O using three 6522 chips and one 6551 serial communication chip. Each 6522 has two 1B-bit programmable counter timers run as programmable oscillators or one-shot retriggerable timerswith automatic interrupt of the CPU. The 6551 has inputs and outputs fully buffered to RS232C, programmable baud rates from 50 to 19 200 baud and can send and receive simultaneously. The unit's emulator card allows Muse processor boards to be emulated with the Motorola 'EXORset' development system enabling the systems engineer to experiment without PROMs. Once a final program is completed it can be transferred to 2716/ 2537 EPROMs or 2816/HN48016 EEPROMs. A top-mounted 4 x 4 'Hall effect' keypad allows data input through the lid via internal magnetic sensors. A robot arm designed for use with Muse is currently under development by Morgan-Smith Electronics.
