Text processor Electronic Product Associates Inc., USA, have developed Text, which is a text processor that executes on the EPA 68b microcomputer. It has a 16k RAM, one floppy-disc unit, one CRT and a printer. Text accepts lines of source text interspersed with lines of format control information, and formats the text into a printable paginated document with a user-designated style. The capabilities include left and right justification, automatic word hyphenation, page headings, page footings, including page numbers, indenting~ centering, single, double or triple spacing of lines, footnotes and bibliography references. The text stream that is processed by Text is free-format. This means that the typist, with the aid of the EPA Text Editor, can type the document text in any format that is inconvenient (i.e. one word per line or very long lines or a combination of both), and Text will format the output as desired. To update documents, the typist, with the aid of the text editor, enters the modifications, and Text formats the new document (including new pagination, etc.). Once typed, the document text is stored on floppy discs, and can be recalled or modified at any time. To reduce printing time, Text allows the user to output only the pages that have been modified.

BASIC processor
A n intelligent cassette terminal has been developed for online cassette data interchange with most manufacturers' mainframe computers. The NCR 9761-3 is microcomputercontrolled and preprogrammed for the appropriate protocols and applications. It will write or read from cassettes produced on any NCR terminal or minicomputer, and transmit or receive data from synchronous or asynchronous communications lines. The transmission rates are: synchronous, over BPO lines, 600-2 400 bit/s; inhouse, 6009 600 bit/s; asynchronous, over BPO lines, 75-2 400 bit/s; inhouse, 75-9 600 bit/s. The main protocols available are teletypewriter and IBM 2780. (NCR Ltd, 206 Mary/ebone Road, London N Wl 6L Y) []
Two separate language processors with reentrant capabilities comprise the Harris BASIC-V language processor, which is suitable for time-sharing applications; it is consistent with the BASIC standard X3.60:1978. In the incremental mode, BASIC-V acts as an interpreter. It processes and analyzes each line as it is entered for syntactic errors. This allows changes to be made without the whole program having to be reprocessed each time a change is tested. The compiler mode may be used once a program is developed in the incremental mode to optimize the use of memory space and obtain higher execution speeds. BASIC-V permits the chaining of very large programs. By taking advantage of virtual memory, it also allows large complex programs to be written and run without chaining; very large complex data structures, such as arrays (both string and numeric) of up to 255 dimensions, can be handled.
