FOCUS including various PE products (c 900,000 tonnes/y), EO and ethylene glycol (c 300,000 tonnes/y), and ethoxylates and speciality alcohols (c 300,000 tonnes/y), including units for Ziegler and Guerbet alcohols (ZAG). The complex will initially manufacture PE, ethylene and monoethylene glycol (MEG), bringing the alumina and Ziegler alcohol lines on next, while the more specialized ethoxylates and Guerbet alcohols for high-margin uses will be last. The ethoxylates' demand for EO is anticipated to increase, moving MEG generation to higher purity EO. Brazil’s Oxiteno sees signs of economic upturn Brazil-headquartered chemicals manufacturer Oxiteno experienced a few signs of stabilization and recovery in the nation's distressed market in the Jul-Sep 2016 quarter, according to a top executive of parent Ultrapar. Oxiteno's volumes are expected to improve in 3Q 2016 amid signs of a recovery in the market. Furthermore, the sharp decline in Brazil's economy in 3Q 2015 will be more favourable for the year-on-year comparison in Oxiteno's performance. However, the company's margins will be impacted by the exchange rate and raw material prices. Oxiteno's chemical volumes dropped by 5% year on year in 2Q 2016 to 184,000 tonnes. Speciality volumes decreased by 7% to 147,000 tonnes due to the slow Brazilian market. Nearly two thirds of speciality volumes were allocated for the local market. Oxiteno intends to continue investing in developing novel products, and pursuing its global expansion with investments in its ethoxylation project. The 170,000 tonnes/y facility in Pasadena, TX, USA, is slated to start operations in late 2017 ['Focus on Surfactants', Jan 2016]. APPLICATIONS Household & personal care products Croda presents new anti-pollution data for Cithrol 10GTIS surfactant Croda has unveiled new data on Cithrol 10GTIS that addresses and meets consumer needs for pollution protection. Launched last year ['Focus on Surfactants', May 2015], mild nonionic surfactant Cithrol 10GTIS (INCI: PEG-20 glyceryl triisostearate) has now been shown to offer highperformance removal of particulate matter in addition to its already-proven cleansing performance. Croda has recently carried out extensive in vitro pollution cleansing tests on a Cithrol 10GTIS-based oil cleanser against different market-leading benchmark formulations. In each test, the oil cleanser containing Cithrol 10GTIS outperformed all benchmark and control formulations, effectively removing significantly more particulate matter after rinsing. Cithrol 10GTIS not only creates high-performance facial cleansers that are mild and gentle with highly effective cleansing properties, but Croda's new data reveals that it is also now proven to remove pollution particles from the
