Dover divests Finder Pompe to Gruppo Aturia
D
over Corp has sold Finder Pompe Srl to Italy’s Gruppo Aturia SpA. Merate, Italy-based Finder Pompe, part of Dover’s PSG® business unit, manufactures engineered centrifugal pumps and spare parts for critical applications mainly in the oil and gas market. Founded in 1952, Finder has developed and supplied a wide range of pumps over the years for international projects, including API centrifugal pumps. The company had 2018 revenues of around US$30 million and recently opened a new pump test facility at its headquarters in Merate (see Pump Industry Analyst, March 2019). Dover’s president and CEO Richard Tobin said: “This divestiture is in line with our strategy of reducing exposure to highly cyclical upstream energy markets and focuses Dover’s PSG business on positive displacement and hygienic pump technologies.”
As a result of the transaction, Dover will receive US$24 million in cash and will record a non-cash after-tax charge of approximately US$40 million–50 million due to the write off of net carrying value of assets, including goodwill and foreign exchange cumulative translation adjustment held in equity. Gruppo Aturia, which has been part of India’s WPIL Group since 2015 and already includes the Aturia, Rotos, Marelli, Audoli & Bertola, Aris Chiappa and Rutschi pump businesses, sees strong synergies with Finder, especially in the oil and gas market. WPIL president Prakash Agarwal said: “The Italian pump group expects the acquisition of Finder to have an important impact on the engineered pump market in Europe and to soon become a global player in the sector.” For further information, visit www.dovercorporation. com, www.gruppoaturia.it and www.finderpumps.com
John Crane buys Advanced Diamond Technologies’ Industrial Division
S
ealing specialist John Crane has acquired the Industrial Division of Advanced Diamond Technologies (ADT). Based in Romeoville, Illinois, USA, ADT specialises in the development of diamond films for industrial, electronic, mechanical and medical applications. The Industrial Division of ADT has developed proprietary materials that capture the properties of natural diamond using chemical vapor deposition. The company’s ultrananocrystalline diamond (UNCD®) technology is a thin-film diamond material grown through a proprietary chemical vapor deposition process. UNCD improves mechanical seal reliability and performance in difficult applications involving poor lubricating fluids, liquids above their
atmospheric boiling point and abrasive slurries. “John Crane’s acquisition of the Industrial Division of ADT underscores our commitment to technology as a key driver of strategic growth,” said Jean Vernet, president and CEO of John Crane. “ADT has built an impressive business based on a unique and superior diamond facing process, making this acquisition a step in further enhancing our industry leadership. This technology will result in improved performance and reliability for mechanical seals under harsh conditions in pumps and other industrial applications, bringing important benefits to our customers.” For further information, visit www.johncrane.com and www.thindiamond.com
