Announcement EAST-ASIAN WORKSHOP ON MUTAGENICITY TESTING OF CHEMICALS

National Institute of Genetics, November 8--20, 1976. Mishima, Shizyoka-ken 411, Japan The objective of the workshop is to provide senior scientists of East-Asian Countries with a balanced comprehensive overview of the field of chemical mutagenesis and mutagenicity testing of chemicals.

Program Lectures, laboratory exercises and panel discussions of the following topics will be presented. (1) Description and demonstration of procedures for detecting chemically induced mutation. Selected technics using microorganisms, cultured mammalian cells, insects, mice, etc. (2) Analysis, interpretation and evaluation of test results. Regulatory implications. (3) Correlation between mutagenicity, carcinogenicity and teratogenicity. Detailed program and texts will be distributed later for active participants.

Participants Eligible registrants from academic institutions and government will be selected from the following categories: (a) senior research scientists engaged or contemplating working in the field of chemical mutagenesis or genetic toxico-

146 logy; (b) toxicologists charged with making decisions concerning mutagenic agents in our environment. App lica rio ns Persons wishing to participate in the workshop should complete the attached application form and send it to: Dr. T. Kada National Institute of Genetics Mishima, Shizuoka-ken 411, Japan. The number of active participants is limited. Applications received by August 31, 1976, will be reviewed by an Admissions Committee. Applicants are limited to citizens of countries in east Asian region. Fees There is no charge for registration by active participants, however, all the hotel and sojourn expenses are on their own charge. Active participants from abroad will be benefitted of one way air fare from the airport nearest his or her home to Tokyo and per diem during the period of workshop. Languages All lectures and discussions will be given in English.
