Continued from page 1 Charles Armstrong, the president of Canadian parent company SA Armstrong Ltd, said that the UK facilities will provide centres of expertise for the 50Hz and DIN standard global markets from which Armstrong plans to aggressively grow its business. “Armstrong’s vision is to become the world leader in 50Hz and 60Hz fluid dynamics for the building services industry,” said Armstrong. The acquisition means an expanded product range is now available to the renamed Armstrong Holden Brooke Pullen Ltd including circulators, pumps, expansion systems, balancing valves, heat exchangers, HVAC packages, suction guides, triple duty valves, booster systems, variable speed technology, control systems and fire pump sets. Much of the product range is complementary, as are territories. Armstrong also brings increased investment and expertise in value added solutions and services, including knowledge management and supply chain systems. Armstrong’s investment in its e-business platform will continue - and an integrated IT system will be rolled out across the new company. Jane Dawson, managing director of Holden Brooke Pullen, said that production across the business continues. “Together with Armstrong we will grow this business globally. These are exciting times, giving customers access to more products and global expertise, and presenting new opportunities for our business partners,” added Dawson. Armstrong specializes in HVAC and fluid flow equipment for residential, commercial and industrial applications and has an international sales and support network. Established in 1934, the company has multiple manufacturing facilities on two continents.

EBARA TALKS PUMPS WITH IHI Japan’s Ebara Corp and Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co Ltd (IHI) are currently in talks about ways of working together in waste incineration and pump production and technology development. Pump Industry Analyst has learned that the two companies are discussing a number of pump ideas including the exchange of pump product lines on an OEM basis, the exchange of pump components and pump test stands, and cooperation on the procurement of parts or materials. To address the shrinking domestic pump market the pump collaboration will focus on overseas opportunities. By using both companies’ manufacturing and testing facilities mutually and effectively, Ebara and IHI plan to improve technology and cost competitiveness for better profitability. IHI is one of Japan’s leading heavy machinery manufacturers, suppling a range of machinery, equipment, plants, structures, ships and offshore facilities.

ACQUISITIONS REPOSITION ITT’S WATER PORTFOLIO The recent acquisitions of Germany’s Wedeco AG Water Technology and China’s Shanghai Hengtong Purified Water Development Co Ltd and Shanghai Hengtong Water Treatment Engineering Co Ltd are helping to reposition ITT Industries’ water treatment portfolio. According to ITT Industries, the acquisitions mark the continuation of the company’s strategy to expand the technological and geographic reach of its water business. These

acquisitions, to be operated within the Sanitaire unit, enhance the company’s position to meet growing demand for clean water and to satisfy new regulations governing municipal and industrial water treatment through complete water treatment solutions including instrumentation, filtration, biological treatment, disinfection and oxidation. “With the growing global demand for clean, usable water, and with tighter regulatory requirements governing water treatment in key markets, ITT Industries recognized early on that we wanted to increase our presence in the water treatment business worldwide,” said Bob Ayers, president of ITT Fluid Technology. Since buying Sanitaire’s biological treatment technology in 1999 to complement Flygt pumps, ITT Industries has continued to grow by adding adjacent treatment technologies like the filtration components of PCI Membranes, Water Equipment Technologies, C’treat, Portacel and Royce Technologies.
