Economics Journals Archive on ScienceDirect As from July 2002, the archive (backfiles) of the Elsevier journals in economics, econometrics and finance are made available through ScienceDirect1. The complete package comprises 34,000 full text articles published prior to 1995 in 67 economics journals published by Elsevier Science. Functionalities and contents of the Journal Archive (Backfiles): . ScienceDirect1 offers one single interface to search and access 34,000 economics articles prior to 1995 together with 30,000 articles published from 1995 to 2003 - and growing daily. . Desktop electronic access to all full-text articles: efficient and timesaving for faculty and students. . Fully searchable bibliographic information, references, abstracts and full text (full text is also in PDF). . Automatic reference linking to the full text of journals from Elsevier Science and other participating publishers via the Crossref1 linking service, enabling you to trace a significant part of the history of economics research. . Through the reference links access to abstracts of all journal articles as available in ECONLit1. Furthermore, if your institute has purchased ECONLit1 on the ScienceDirect1 platform you will have access to all other ECONLit1 functionality and contents. . Many search options and personalization features. Online functionality of the backfiles: The full text of each article is fully searchable due to the fact that an asci file is loaded together with the PDF of the full text. Titles, abstracts, references and other bibliographic data is re-keyed into HTML. Packaging: Elsevier offers backfiles of its journals on the basis of subject packages because research needs cross the boundaries of individual journals. The package approach offers access to many journals your library may not have in its print collection thus reducing the need for document delivery. Also it may fill gaps in the collection and avoids replacing lost and damaged issues.

Accesss to the backfiles: To access the full texts of the articles the institute must purchase the backfile package. Access is provided on the basis of IP address recognition as a part of your institute’s ScienceDirect license.
