PWN Technologies partners with Singapore’s PUB on water treatment
Officials from PWN Technologies and PUB sign the MOU.
Dutch water technology company PWN Technologies and PUB, Singapore’s national water agency, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on advanced water treatment. Both parties will work together developing both programs and projects. The MOU was signed following the promising trial of PWN Technologies’ CeraMac demonstration plant at the Choa Chu Kang Waterworks in Singapore, funded by the Environment and Water Industry Programme Office (EWI)’s TechPioneer scheme.
“PUB is always on the lookout for innovative water solutions and the best way forward is through R&D collaborations with the private sector, which allows the various parties to mutually leverage on synergies gained from marrying expertise and technological resources. We look forward to a rewarding long-term partnership with PWN Technologies to not only meet Singapore’s growing water demand more efficiently, but also add vibrancy to the local water R&D landscape, and boost Singapore’s status as a global hydrohub,” said PUB chief executive Chew Men Leong. “This MOU underscores the strengthening partnership between Singapore and the Netherlands in the area of advanced water treatment and PWN Technologies is extremely honoured to play a leading role in developing this relationship,” said Pieter Spohr, CEO of PWN Technologies. www.pwntechnologies.com www.pub.gov.sg
Desalitech to supply desal unit for Massachusetts golf course Desalitech has won a competitive bid to supply a water purification system for well water to the Kittansett Club golf course in Marion, Massachusetts, USA. The wells that supply irrigation water for the golf course are being affected by accelerating seawater intrusion. The Kittansett Club’s Desalitech Closed Circuit Desalination (CCD) unit will treat 100 gallons per minute of well water varying from 1000 to 10 000 parts per million dissolved salts. The CCD unit is designed for maximum water utilization and is capable of producing over 9 gallons of purified water from every 10 gallons it is fed, while minimizing well withdrawals and reject flow.
“Our proprietary CCD process has the ability to adjust to varying feedwater conditions, while operating at over 90% recovery with a single stage of reverse osmosis membrane elements,” said Desalitech's Rick Stover. “We were the only bidder that could guarantee our system would perform as required if the feedwater salinity doubled.” “At the end of the day when we looked at cost of ownership, operational cost, efficiency and the unit’s ability to manage varying salinity levels without upgrading equipment, Desalitech’s system was at the top of our list,” said John Kelly, Kittansett golf course superintendent. www.desalitech.com
PMFG wins separation orders for projects in Eastern Europe, China PMFG Inc has secured contracts for separation equipment worth US$3.9 million on two projects in Eastern Europe and China. Both contracts will be managed through PMFG subsidiaries in Europe. The first contract is for multiple sets of filtration and separation equipment to support a natural gas pipeline construction project in Eastern Europe. The second order is for steam separators designed to protect steam turbine generators for a power plant project located in China.
PMFG CEO Peter Burlage said: “These important new contract awards for our core process products business are destined for the emerging markets, where power demand is growing rapidly along with the associated infrastructure to meet that demand. Whether it is the expansion or upgrading of natural gas pipelines or new power plant construction, we have the experience and depth of resources to provide our customers with high quality, reliable, costefficient systems and products.” www.peerlessmfg.com
Baldwin Filters plans new distribution centre in Nebraska Baldwin Filters Inc is investing US$40 million to build a new 400 000 sq ft warehouse and distribution centre next to the company’s current manufacturing facility in Kearney, Nebraska, USA. Chris Conway, chairman and CEO of Baldwin Filters’ parent company Clarcor Inc, said: “Our Baldwin business is a principal driver of Clarcor’s success, and we are excited to expand Baldwin’s capacity to handle anticipated growth over the next decade.” The project is expected to take approximately two years to
complete, with groundbreaking this spring. “Not only will we improve our warehousing and distribution capabilities, but the new facility should allow us to address inefficiencies with off-site storage and free up additional manufacturing space so that Baldwin can make an even broader array of products, achieve greater production efficiencies and advance its efforts to develop new and exciting engine filtration technologies. We expect to see capacity and efficiency gains as a result of this project,” said Conway. www.clarcor.com
Ecosphere, Dominion Water explore opportunities for Ozonix technology Ecosphere Technologies Inc subsidiary Ecosphere Exploration and Mining Services LLC has signed a Letter of Intent with Dominion Water LLC to deploy its patented Ozonix technology to mine sites in Colorado state. Both companies will explore mining applications for Ozonix in Colorado. “This Letter of Intent with Dominion represents a significant new growth opportunity in a very
important vertical market for Ecosphere as we expand outside of the oil and gas industry,” said John Brewster, chairman and CEO of Ecosphere Technologies. “The mining industry is facing an era of increased regulation and water scarcity which is driving up the value of clean water. Mining companies must address these challenges to stay competitive – while continuing to protect the environment.” www.ecospheretech.com
