EDITORIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Editor, Clinical Radiology Professor David Hansell’s four-year period of office as Editor of Clinical Radiology will come to an end at the AGM in September 2006. Applications are now invited for his successor. The responsibilities of the Editor are set out below. The Editor oversees the timely publication of Clinical Radiology and specifically ensures that the content is relevant to clinical radiologists and in line with the aims of the College. Clinical Radiology is published by Elsevier Limited, under a contract with the College which currently runs until December 2011. Specific Editorial Responsibilities † To ensure, through continuous monitoring, a high standard of peer review, in line with the current guidelines from relevant bodies (e.g. COPE—the Committee on Publication Ethics). † To commission new material with the help of the Editorial Board, including review articles, commentaries and editorials. † To define, refine and implement the Journal’s ethical standards, including the principle of Editorial independence. † To appoint and maintain a geographically representative Editorial Board, capable of maintaining the highest peer review standards. † To provide a forum for members of the Editorial Board to supply and discuss innovative ideas for the development of Clinical Radiology. † To make available clear instructions to any author wishing to submit material to the Journal. † To have in place a mechanism to deal promptly with author grievances as/if they arise. † To work with the Editorial Office to maintain high standards of editorial processing to ensure that all material submitted to Clinical Radiology is dealt with in a timely manner.

† To correct publisher’s proofs to an agreed timetable. † To liaise with the RCR Faculty Board and Special Interest Groups to ensure that the Journal reflects material that is pertinent to the aims and objectives of the RCR. It is difficult to specify the appropriate fixed and continuous periods needed to fulfill all of the Editor’s duties, but a significant time commitment will be required, and the individual should seek the approval of their Trust for them to undertake the role. The Editor is supported by an Editorial Assistant who provides the office functions, including the on-line submission arrangements. Currently this is a service provided under contract arrangements to the College from offices in Hampshire. Meetings of the Editorial Board are held at the College. Whilst there is a need to establish regular contact with the Editorial Office, and periodical meetings are helpful, most of the Editor’s duties will be performed at his or her home base. A document entitled “Good Practice Guidelines on the Relationship Between the Royal College of Radiologists and the Editor, Clinical Radiology” is available for information on the College website. Interested individuals should send a CV plus the names of two referees to: Clinical Radiology Editorial Office, 23A High Street, Overton, Hampshire, RG25 3HB to arrive by 3 pm on Thursday 1 December 2005. Interviews will be conducted by a panel appointed by the Board of the Faculty of Clinical Radiology in January/February 2006. The appointment of Editor will be made by the Faculty Board in time to allow the individual to work with Professor Hansell from June 2006, prior to their taking up office at the College AGM in September 2006.
