Editorial: A Review Journal
Two Years On
This is the eighth issue of Prostaglandins, Leukotrienes and Essential Fatty Acids: Reviews (PGLEFA: Reviews). During the past two years 36 review articles have been published and approximately 3500 references cited in this journal. This must surely be an indication of how comprehensive the reviews were as well as being a tribute to the commitment of the 57 invited authors. We would like this opportunity to thank them once more for their efforts. This is also the last issue of PGLEFA: Reviews to be published separately from the main journal. From 1990 onwards, review articles will be included in the main monthly journal. We hope that this more flexible approach will be more convenient for the readers. There has been a disappointing low number of letters received for the correspondence section. Others, as well as ourselves’, believe that debate in the form of correspondence is probably one of the most effective means of evaluating a publication. Furthermore, reviews should offer excellent material for correspondence because authors may well be unaware of recent relevant work which has just been published or is ‘in press’. A good letter would, therefore, provide readers with the latest information. The new monthly format should be ideal for the rapid publication of letters. Some offers for uninvited reviews have had to be turned down because of overlap with accepted or commissioned material. However, authors should continue to submit outlines of proposed

reviews. Some of these proposals are undoubtedly going to be commissioned. The previous issue of PGLEFA: Reviews’ introduced a relatively novel feature to the journal: the publication of a ‘workshop report’. The idea behind this type of article is to publish an overview of a meeting very soon after it has been held thus providing readers with up to date information. Much too often meeting proceedings are not published, are inaccessible to readers or take over a year to appear in print. We hope to include more of these reports in the future. Anyone interested in a contribution should, however, communicate with the editorial staff before embarking on any writing. We look forward to an active contribution from the readership.
