Editorial Board Member wins Top Award
Dr. Zeno W. Wicks, Jr.
The officers and Award Committee of the Division of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering (PMSE) of the American Chemical Society are extremely pleased to announce that the recipient of the 1988 Roy W. Tess ALUUF~in Coatings is Dr. Zeno W. Wicks, Jr. This award, established to recognize outstanding contributions in the fields of coatings science, technology and engineering, is given to Dr. Wicks in acknowledgement of his significant achievements in a variety of areas, including rheology of oligomer solutions for high solids coatings, new approaches to crosslinking, ultraviolet curing systems and ‘water soluble’ coatings, among others. Through over fifty journal publications and six patents, he has firmly established his reputation as a major contributor in the fields of coatings science and technology, and the body of work which he has created over the length of his distinguished career in both industry and academia has established him as a pivotal figure in both areas. of Illinois, is an Honorary Editorial Board Member of the international journal, Progress in Organic Coatings, and is a member of several honorary societies including Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, and Phi Lambda Upsilon. He is also a member of the American Chemical Society, the Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology, the Oil and Colour Chemists Association and an honorary member of the Northwestern Society for Coatings Technology. Dr. Wicks, Professor Emeritus and former Chairman of the Polymers and Coatings Department, North Dakota State University, was honoured with a distinguished professorship in 1981, the Mattiello lectureship in 1986, and four Roon Awards since 1975. Dr. Wicks will be presented the Tess Award at the 196th Meeting of ACS, 25 - 30 September, 1988, in Los Angeles, where both a symposium and a reception, sponsored by the Shell Development Company, will be held in his honour.
