EDITORIAL NOTE BY THE RETIRING EDITOR

in summer 1979, I gladly accepted the offer to become the managing editor of Regional Science and Urban Economics. At that time, I planned to do the job for five years at most. I strongly believe that journals should ~,)t be run by the same person for too long. As it now turns out, I have not kept to this iimit. To be pr_~-ise, since my first issue was 1980 number 1 and since the present one is the last to he edited by m_m_vse~it all adds up to seven volumes and a half. During my tenure as ~anagl_rtg editor of the journal, fortunately, I received a lot of help, suggestions and advice from my co-editors and associate editors, from many referees and, last but not least, from the publisher. Let me take the opportanity to thank all of them. It is not hard for me to step down because I know I am to be followed by two very competent persons. I happily announce that Professor John Quigley and Professor Konrad Stahl are now jointly taking over as managing editors of Regional Science and Urban Economics. All authors are kindly requested to observe the following statement by the new editors! U. Schweizer
