Edward
Carlisle
King
Edward Carlisle King, who practiced in Ithaca and central New York for many years, died on April 28, 1984. Dr. King was born in Emlenton, Pennsylvania, completed his high school education in that area, received his undergraduate degree at Grove City College, and then graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry in the distinguished Class of 1919, where he was a classmate and friend of Allen Gibson Brodie. He studied orthodontics with Martin H. Dewey, and he also completed many courses given by Robert H. W. Strang and Charles Tweed. Dr. King first entered practice in Ithaca, New York, in association with Harry Hamilton, a pioneer orthodontist in the area, and Dr. King went on to become one of the pioneers in group practice in dentistry and orthodontics in particular. Dr. King, together with Dr. Hamilton, founded one of the longest continuing orthodontic practices in this country. Robert W. Baker joined him in practice in the early 1950’s, and since that time several other orthodontists have been associated with him in this practice. Dr. King had been retired for the past few years, and had served as a consultant to the practice. Dr. King was a member of the American Association of Orthodontists and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He was a member and past president of the Tompkins County Dental Society and of the Sixth District Dental Society, a member of the American Dental Association and a delegate to several American Dental Association national meetings, a member of the American Association of Orthodontists and of the Edward H. Angle Society, and a pastpresident of the Strang-Tweed orthodontic group. Dr.
