The scorpion Androctonus amoreuxi Is widely distributed in Egypt and neighbouring countries . Few studies concerning Its venom effect were reported (GHAZAL et al ., 1975 ; ISMAIL et al ., 1975) . In this communication we demonstrated that the infection ofrats with sublethal doses of Androctonus amoreuxi venom resulted in a marked lactacidemia, which was blocked by Bblockers .~increase In serum lactate was accompanied by an increase in lactate dehydrogenase in the liver of the treated animals . The venom resulted also in an inhibition of liver alkaline phosphatase, while no effect was observed on serum enzyme . The venom has no effect on total serum amino acids, however, an increase was shown in leucine/Tsoieucine and valine concentrations and a decrease in alanine and arginine concentration . The lethal fraction (GHAZAL et al ., 1975) was not responsible for these effects, and no fraction by Itself was able to show all or part of the observed effects demonstrated by the crude venom.
