A protective coating for a metal component having good corrosion resistance in a saline atmosphere and comprising at least one layer of a tin-zinc alloy containing between 8 and 35% by weight of zinc and a sublayer of a zinc-nickel alloy containing between 10 to 16% of nickel, the sublayer of zinc-nickel alloy constituting about two thirds of the thickness of the coating.
