PC Based Sonar UDI-Wimp01 Ltd has added a low cost, high performance scanning sonar to their range of SONAVISION products. This new product, known as SONAVISION 2000 operates in conjunction with a 486 PC running Microsoft Windows 3.1. The SONAVISION 2000 Subsea Unit, machined in stainless steel, is a compact sonar operating at 500 kHz providing up to a 100 m acoustic range with a depth rating of 1000 m. The transducer array uses the same high performance, wideband composite technology (CT) PZT which was first used in the SONAVISION 4000 sonar. Good quality sonar images are guaranteed due to the production of precise beam patterns and low noise electronics. SONAVISION 2000 will operate using a customers PC with UDI-Wimp01 providing the sonar sensor and the software on a 3.5 inch floppy disc. Alternatively, UDI-Wimp01 can provide a surface sonar processor featuring a unique, remote input device with single push-button commands to select a variety of parameters such as range, gain, sector size etc. Using a PC as the sonar processor permits the use of various software packages to enhance, overlay, store onto disc and output the sonar images to a printer. Sonar images can also be recorded onto a standard or s-video video cassette recorder.
Environmental Litigation Manuals The Environmental Law Foundation (ELF) has published the first three titles in its series of litigation manuals. Each manual, produced with the financial assistance of National Westminster Bank plc, takes into account recent legislation and case law, providing legal practitioners with an up-to-date tool to assist them in environmental litigation. Noise Pollution (Alistair Morley & Stephen Tromans) outlines issues about noise and related litigation followed by an analysis of the law of noise pollution. Air Pollution (Charles
pollution, and the remedies available to citizens who may have suffered damage as a result of exposure to airborne pollution. Private Prosecutions (Simon Jackson 8c Peter Roderick) contains a review and practical guide of water pollution offences including those under the Water Resources Act 1991 and Part I of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The litigation manuals are part of an ELF programme aiming to give advice to lawyers acting for individuals and communities faced with environmental problems. On-line Hydrocarbon Monitor Turner Designs of Sunnyvale, California, have introduced a new on-line monitor for hydrocarbons in water, the TD-4100. The fluorometer-based TD-4100 can detect aromatic hydrocarbons of 1 ppb for gasoline and diesel in clean water. For continuous monitoring of contaminated water being treated for discharge, the device verifies the effectiveness of treatment systems. The instrument features a falling-stream flow cell and as the cell has no contact with the water stream, it is nonfouling. As a result the instruments operates for long periods before routine cleaning is required.
Electronic Flow Meters Conflow, the main UK distributor for the Great Plains Industry’s range of electronic flowmeters, has announced that their range of flowmeters has been extended. There are now over 60 models to match almost any application need. Available in four housing materials from 0.5 to 2.0 inch connections, the flowmeters offer up to five computer configurations with an accuracy of 1%. The meters are now available with pulsed, conditioned or 4 mV outputs allowing for remote monitoring of flows and totals. For further information contact Nick Douse, Conflow Ltd, Nottingham, UK.
