The solder level is maintained to within *& in. (0.75 mm) by means of the auto-level solder strip feed. An integral hood for fume extraction is fitted as standard. The fluxing machine consists of a ‘Flowfluxer’ Type ‘61’. a specially designed stainless steel unit which applies flux by means of a smooth laminar double-sided wave adjustable to a height of up to 4 in. (12.5 mm) and controllable within a range of l& in. (0.4 mm). Both the Flowfluxer and Flowsolder machines will handle boards from 2 in. (51 mm) up to a maximum width of 134 in. (343 mm). Should it be required to solder a number of small or random size small boards at one time, this can be done by using the board assembly pallet, Fry’s Metals Ltd Circle number 41 on Reader Enquiry Service card
New range of pressure and temperature gauges and controllers Following their appointment as sole UK agents for the ENFM (Holland) range of pressure and temperature measuring and control instruments, LG International have announced the availability of a combined temperature and pressure gauge measuring from O-l 20°C and O-4 kg/cmz. Four models are available, one with both temperature and pressure scales covering 180’ with a scale diameter of 80 or 100 mm. alternatively the temperature scale 280” and the pressure scale 90’ also with scale diameters of 80 or 100 mm. An automatic shut-off valve is built into the back entry union and a special 0 ring seal ensures easy leak-proof fitting. L G International Circle number 42 on Reader Enquiry Service card
‘Surefire’ thick film paste systems A new integrated range of compatible and co-firable resistor, conductor and dielectric pastes for the manufacture of hybrid and thick film circuits. Marketed under the trade-name ‘Surefire’, these pastes constitute the first complete system of their kind to be developed in Europe. They are intended primarily for use in the economical fabrication of circuits incorporating resistive elements, film capacitors and bonding areas. They can also be successfully employed in the manufacture of fixed resistors and of both trimmer and hand operated potentiometers. All the pastes in the Surefire system are compatible with one another. Most can be co-fired-that is, the dried prints of resistor, conductor and dielectric pastes can be fired together in one cycle. This makes it possible to produce the different elements of a circuit by simply printing and drying each Surefire paste in turn and then firing them all at one time. A Certificate of Performance is supplied with each consignment of resistor, conductor or dielectric paste, confirming that performance is in accordance with the published data. JMM Catalogue 1470 gives full technical data on the Surefire system and is presented for easy reference in colour-coded sections dealing with general information and with the different types of pastes. Electronic temperature controllers The new Dinpid range of Electronic Temperature Controllers DIN (96 mm) Panel Mounted Case is announced. The comprehensive ra.nge has simple on-off control through to sophisticated three term control with start up overshoot suppression feature. Typical of the range is Model GE3. This is a full three term 216
controller with start up suppression and output capable of finng remote triacs. The models cover ranges of temperature up to 1400°C from standard thermocouples. Accuracies of better than 1 per cent of range, and repeatability of better than 0.5 per cent can be expected. Models are available with solid state or relay output, and over or under temperature limits can be incorporated. The new unit, designated model LTI 12, is designed for use in either vacuum or over-pressure modes and is fully transportable, making it especially suitable for the testrng of remote pipework and process plant. Small components to be tested are attached directly to the test port of the leak detector; larger components or systems are attached via a connector. Alternatively, the unit can be used with a ‘sniffer’ probe to detect and locate minute quantities of gas escaping from a pressurized system. Sensitivity of the LTI 12 is 5 x 10-l 1 torr-litre s-l in the vacuum mode and 1 O-9 torr-litre s-1 in the over-pressure mode. Operating pressure is 1 O-4 torr. The search gas used is normally helium, but the unit can be adapted to detect gases in the mass range 2-44. The unit is quick and easy to operate: a new design of diffusion pump is incorporated with a warm-up time of only 5 minutes, and response time of the 180” mass spectrometer is 2 s. A liqurd nitrogen trap, with a minimum life of 8 h, is built in to protect the detector head during leak testing.
