BIOMECHANICS OF HUMAN MOVEMENT REHABILITATION, NEUROSCIENCE
IN ORTHOPAEDICS, AND SPORTS
Eric P. and Evelyn E. Newman Laboratory for Biomechanics and Human Rehabilitation, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA 02139, U.S.A., 15-19 June 1986 The measurement and analysis of the kinematics and dynamics of human movement will be the major theme. Comparisons of contemporary motion analysis and force plate systems will lead into demonstrations of, and ‘handson’ experience with the Selspot-based TRACK movement analvsis svstem at both M.I.T. and the Massachusetts General ‘Hospital. Applications will include intertrochanteric osteotomy, acetabulum pressure in vivo, and

MEETING OF THE AMERICAN OF BIOMECHANICS
SOCIETY
University of California, Davis, CA, 1618 September, 1987 The American Society of Biomechanics was formed in 1977 to foster interaction among various disciplines. The membership of the Society includes biologists, engineers, ergonomists, health scientists, and physical educators. The Society invites researchers in all areas of biomechanics to submit original scientific papers for presentation at the 1987 meeting. The selection of papers to be presented will be based on scientific quality as well as the relevance of the material to an audience with diverse interests. Abstracts
Short and long abstracts are required for each paper. Those wishing to submit papers should obtain instructions
and mats from the Program Committee Chairperson, whose address appears below. Borelli Award
The ASB annually awards the Giovanni Borelli Award to an investigator who has conducted exemplary research in any of the many areas of Biomechanics. The Awards Committee will consider submissions by individuals or groups in the form of (a) an original unpublished research paper, or (b) a series of up to five published research papers on a single topic or theme. Also, ASB members may nominate others for consideration within the second category. If a nomination is to be made, the member making

the nomination must obtain permission of the nominee before submitting his/her name. Competition for the Borelli Award is open to all scientists except members of the ASB Awards Committee and officers of the Society. Membership in ASB is not a prerequisite for entry into the competition. Criteria for selection of the awardee will include originality, quality, depth, and relevance to the field of Biomechanics as a whole. The Award consists of a $500 cash prize and an engraved plaque. The winner of the award will be expected to present the research as the Giovanni Borelli Lecture at the Eleventh Annual Meeting of the Society in Davis, California, 1618 September 1987.
formats, e.g. unpublish~ doctoral dissertation, (&-Doer ~~~ ~er~aduate or MS. thesis), unpublished or published manuscripts. Applications must be accompanied by a synopsis (l-2 pages) of the work including a statement about the potential impact of the results. (Pre-Dot: a letter endorsing the candidate and support of his/her research from the department head or graduate research advisor must be submitted). The candidate must also submit both a short and long abstract according to the standard ASB annual meeting format. A wards submissions
One Post-Doctoraf and one Pre-Doctoral ASB Young Scientist Award will he given annuaIly. ASB Young Scientists wilt receive an award certificate, a S200 cash prize, and a waiver of conference fees for the annual meeting in which they present their research. Eligibility criteria for the two awards are similar, with the information specified below in bold print for the Pre-Doctoral Award. Candidates may be self-nominated or nominated by an ASB member, must be a current or pending member of ASB, and must have completed a doctoral degree within the past four years (Pre-Doct must not have completed a doctoral degree prior to the annual meeting at which the award is given). Candidates must supply a current copy of their curriculum vitae (Pm-Dact provide a short description of research involvements at undergraduate and/or graduate levels). The candidate must be the first author or only author of the paper(s) and must present the research (if accepted) at the annual meeting. His/her work may be in several
