Nouvelles de I'industrie Unique temperature controller The digital temperature controller, model CT122, from Coley Thermometers, UK, is unusual in haying a very robust dial-type stainless steel case and polycarbonate window. This allows it to be used as a straight replacement for a filled system instrument. The case is resistant not only to weathering, and high RH, but also aggressive chemical environments. The controller is very reliable and gives a continuous reading to 0.1 C, and is accurate to 0 . 5 C over the range - 5 0 2 0 0 C . The CT122 is available as a single or dual controller, which can switch up to I A at any pre-set temperature. The single contact version features a fail safe safety overload. The switching temperature can be set at any time with a small knob, and can be finely tuned in service. The temperature differential for relay action can be infinitely variable between 0 and 9 C.

Energy saving compressors Close coupled compressor/motor units, rangmg from 3 to 15 kW, have been introduced by TransFrig Limited, UK. These units are the first of their type to include a separate electric motor with its own cooling system, and as such they are well stated to supermarket pack systems and other applications where a higher degree of efficiency, low cost and reliability are required. The use of a separate motor also eliminates the risk of contamination of the system in the case of a motor malfunction. Standard replacement motors are readily available and no specialist skill is necessary to remove and reinstall the motor. Due to the large speed range of the separate air cooled motor, this unit can be used on variable frequency supplies covering 300-2000 rev

The instrument features a large 2 0 m m liquid crystal display which can be read at 10m without ambiguity. It can be wall or panel mounted up to 200m from the sensor, and is also available with a rigid stem, for direct mounting over a tank. The CT122 is available in mains voltages of 240 or 110 V. rain -1. This feature enables the system to achieve energy savings of over 50 °o compared to conventional unit applications. The close coupled units are also supplied as condensing units and as compressor receiver units for use with remote condensers. TransFrig Limited, Cranbourne Road, Gosport, Hampshire PO12 1RJ, UK.

New from the Robinair Division of K e n t - M o o r e U K Limited is a bench mounted refrigerator dehydration unit. Based on a two stage vacuum p u m p rated at 6 c.f.m, and capable of a vacuum level better than I/~m, it is primarily intended for O E M type applications. The heavy duty vacuum p u m p has high water vapour tolerance and is suitable for extended running times at low noise level. An easily operated gas ballast valve greatly extends the period between oil changes. An integral dual scale analogue thermistor vacuum gauge accurately monitors the dehydration process. By closing the main vacuum valve the operator is able to carry out a drop test for leaks before charging. A high vacuum manifold having extra large internal passages and matching ports is directly mounted on the vacuum pump intake connection. The manifold provides valved ports for vacuum intake (main vacuum valve), refrigerant inlet and vacuum sensor in addition to conventional high and low side service connections. The valves have non-rotating stems and the linear action ensures the valves seat m exactly the same position every time. By avoiding rotation of the seat the valves provide long leak-free service. Easily read 3.5 in diameter service gauges are provided. Heavy duty large bore hoses, with reducers at the system connection end where required, are included. Such hoses enable deeper vacuum to be created within the system under charge compared to conventional refrigerant charging lines. Particular attention has been paid to ease of maintenance with both the large oil level indicator and the drain valve conveniently positioned. Intake and exhaust ports are provided with quick-connect klein flanges allowing the manifold assembly and exhaust fittings to be
