CULLIGAN SIGNS TURKMENISTAN DEAL Culligan International, the recently acquired subsidiary of US Filter, has signed a framework agreement with the R e p u b l i c of Turkm e n i s t a n to provide more than US$200 million worth of water treatment equipment and services. The equipment will be used to improve Turkmenistan's water infrastructure and allow it to accommodate the growing water needs for c o m m u n i t i e s and industry throughout the country, including the capital, Ashgabat. The agreement covers a number of projects that are expected to extend for more than five years. The projects include several sea and brackish water desalination plants in urban, industrial and agricultural areas, refurbishment and expansion of piping networks and pumping stations, as well as groundwater reclamation and aquifer control.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS UPS GROWTH FUNDING Environmental Elements C o r p o r a t i o n (EEC) has agreed with its p r i m a r y bank, Mercantile-Safe Deposit and Trust Company, to increase its long-term revolving line of credit to US$12 million, from US$7 million. The expansion in bank lines will support EEC's growth resulting from its recent doubling of new order bookings, and its strategies to pursue profitable growth opportunities. EH Verdery, chairman and chief executive officer, said that during the past fiscal year EEC had seen strong results from its ongoing productivity programmes and its leadership in the markets served. profitability and with its contract bookings up more than 100 per cent, Verdery said EEC's relationship with Mercantile had been instrumental in this success and that the company looked forward to the future with the bank's support.

SIMPLEX IN LICENSE AGREEMENT WITH WHATMAN UNIT Simplex Medical Systems lnc has signed a l o n g - t e r m license agreement with Polyfiltronics Inc, a US subsidiary of Whatman plc, for Polyfiltronics' proprietary micro titer filter plate technology and Simplex's unique opaque wall micro strip system. Under the license agreement, Polyfiltronics will pay Simplex a lump sum plus a royalty based on future sales. Colin Jones, president of Simplex, said they were delighted to have a world leader in the micro titer plate market as their exclusive licensee and looked forward to a long and fruitful relationship. Polyfiltronics specialises in filter plate technology, which is commonly used in medical diagnostics, forensic medicine, DNA research, drug discovery and many other scientific fields for the analysis of small qualities of chemical or biological components. Simplex is a bio-engineering company that develops problemsolving products for business, industry and the medical profession.

MEMBRANES PROVE ESSENTIAL IN FRENCH WATER PROJECT M e m b r a n e s are playing a key role in a major water

project, currently under construction in France. German company Knappe Chemicals is supplying 1520 200 mm composite pressure vessels to a water treatment plant which will supply 400 000 m3 of potable water to the North West sector of Paris. These vessels, designed to work at 20 bar, contain spiral wound nano-filtration membranes, supplied by Dow Filtech, which remove all noxious materials from water pumped out of the river Oise. This contract is the largest of its kind ever built in Europe using nano-filtration membranes.

ITEQ WINS US$2.9 MILLION EMISSION CONTROL ORDER Iteq Inc's Amerex Industries Inc s u b s i d i a r y has been awarded a US$2.9 million contract for the design, supply and installation of an air pollution control system as part of M a e r z - G a u t s c h i ' s c o n t r a c t with M u e l l e r Casting Company in Fulton, Mississippi. The system will filter particulate from process gases generated by the Maerz furnaces. Equipment supplied and installed by Amerex for this project includes fabric filters, hoods and duct work, exhaust fans and motors and necessary controls and instrumentation. The entire system is scheduled to be installed by December 1998. Amerex Industries, based in Woodstock, Georgia, is a designer and supplier of fabric filters and scrubbers for the iron, steel, foundry, rock product, incineration and pulp and paper industries. lteq is a rapidly growing provider of manufactured

equipment, engineered systems and services. The company operates worldwide providing its products and services to a broad base of industrial customers.

AIR LIQUIDE BUILDS AIR SEPARATION UNIT IN SOUTH TEXAS Air Liquide America Corporation is to build an air separation unit at Ingleside, Texas, to supply 1500 tons per day of gaseous oxygen to its pipeline customers. The new plant will also supply gaseous nitrogen to pipeline customers and install new backup systems for added reliability on its 1600-mile Gulf Coast pipeline. The company recently announced the construction of a liquefier to be built in Ingleside, and currently maintains hydrogen production, liquid storage, and backup vaporisation systems as well. Construction of the latest portion of the project will be completed by Air Liquide Process & Construction in late 1999.

MFRI ACQUIRES DANISH MAKER OF COOLING

EQUIPMENT MFRI Inc has purchased all the assets of privately owned B o e - T h e r m A/S, a Danish m a n u f a c t u r e r of p r o c e s s cooling equipment used in the plastic molding industry. Boe-Therm has annual sales of approximately US$3.5 million and is based in Assens, Denmark. The acquisition was for an undisclosed amount of cash.
