A useful textbook giving a good introduction for engineers and students of engineering to the biological problems of hydrobiology. It contains up-to-date information on all major pollution problems and their effects on biota.

Not everyone is convinced of the value of all environmental impact statements (EIS) but more countries, including those of the EEC, are moving towards their general use. This book lists many statements, grouped into sections on Methods, Manuals, General Reviews, Critical Reviews, Methods for Preparing Statements, Reviews of Alternative Methods, Planning, Legal, etc. There are then sections for different countries--the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, Continental Europe and other countries. Many hundreds of statements are listed, with short, critical abstracts. The information should be very useful to those who have to prepare, and use, EIS.

This is necessary reading for anyone who has to read, or write, an environmental impact statement (EIS). Under the headings General, Physical and Cultural, it gives a full thematic glossary, clearly defining all the terms likely to be used.
