WAVY TUBE HEAT P U M P I N G

EPITHERMAL NEUTRON LIFETIME LOGGING

Charles W Haldeman assigned to Megatech Corporation

Linus S Allen, William R Mills assigned to Mobil Oil Corporation

A PVC conduit about 4" in diameter and a little more than 40 feet long is adapted for being seated in a hole in the earth and surrounds a coaxial copper tube along its length that carries Freon between a heat p u m p and a distributor at the bottom. A number of wavy conducting tubes located between the central conducting tube and the wall of the conduit interconnect the distributor with a Freon distributor at the top arranged for connection to the heat pump. The wavy conducting tubing is made by passing straight soft copper tubing between a pair of like opposed meshing gears each having four convex points in space quadrature separated by four convex recesses with the radius of curvature of each point slightly less than that of each concave

A radioactive borehole logging tool employs an epithermal neutron detector having a neutron counter surrounded by an inner thermal neutron filter and an outer thermal neutron filter. Located between the inner and outer thermal neutron filters is a neutron moderating material for extending the lifetime of epithermal neutrons to enhance the counting rate of such epithermal neutrons by the neutron counter.

Geothermal fluid is pumped up through a production well applying the following process. The produced geothermal fluid is separated into steam and brine in a separator tank or a flash tank. A part of the separated steam is compressed by a steam compressor and brought into the production well. The steam acts as a p u m p by its bubble effect and pumps up the brine. The other part of steam and brine are utilized for driving the power generating apparatus such as a turbine, total flow turbine or the like

Louis H Eilers assigned to The Dow Chemical Company A pumpable slurry of coal-filled furfuryl alcohol, furfural, and/or a low molecular weight mono- or copolymer thereof containing, preferably, a catalytic amount of a soluble acid catalyst is used to cement a casing in a geothermal well.
