DISEASE Erratum MECHANISMS

Erratum: Mechanisms of depression: Role of the HPA axis Filip Van Den Eede, Stephan J. Claes Drug Discovery Today: Disease Mechanisms Vol. 1, No. 4, 2004, pp. 413–418 DOI: 10.1016/j.ddmec.2004.11.021

The authors would like to apologize for two errors in the review article: (1) Page 414 (Box 1): ‘Pituitary CRF receptor downregulation’ should have read ‘Elevated cortical CRF levels and CRF receptor-1 downregulation’ (Meralzi, 2004). Pituitary CRF receptor downregulation has been suggested as a mechanism to explain the blunted ACTH response to CRF challenge, secondary to the increased hypothalamic CRF secretion (Arborelius et al., 1999). However, this is not a postmortem finding. (2) Pages 413 and 414 (Fig. 1 and Box 1): The correct Mesh term for ACTH is ‘adrenocorticotropic hormone’ or ‘adrenocorticotropin’. We would like to apologize for this inaccuracy and for any confusion that this might have caused.
