THE ROLE OF RADIOTHERAPY IN THE M A N A G E M E N T OF CANCER
November 16-20, 1991 Site ." Director: Level." Target group: Themes:
Faculty of Medicine, University of Granada, Spain T. Landberg Basic course Trainees in radiation oncology, radiation physicists, trainees from other related disciplines The aim of the course is to give a presentation of indications, use, and results of radiotherapy in different malignant tumours. RADIOLOGY
AND ONCOLOGY
The ESTRO as a scientific society is like a prism, integrating on an equal footing the three main disciplines involved in radiation oncology: radiation physics, radiobiology and clinical radiotherapy. Prime features at its biannually organised independent ESTRO meetings are therefore besides clinical sessions, full fledged radiation physics and biology programmes. On uneven calendar years the ESTRO participates in the ECCO clinical Oncology Meetings which feature no physics programme. On these years independent ESTRO physics meetings are organised. Besides three teaching courses also meant both for physicists and radiotherapists are organised annually.

CANCER SOCIETIES FECS Teaching Course on Multidisciplinary Management of Soft Tissue Sarcoma Firenze, Centro Affari, Sunday October 27, 1991
The course is meant for surgeons, internists, medical oncologists, orthopedic surgeons, radiotherapists and all interested in the diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue sarcomas. Both with respect to diagnosis as and to the treatment of soft tissue sarcoma important developments have taken place in recent years. The implications of new imaging techniques such as MRI and advances in pathology for the diagnosis and treatment of these tumours will be discussed. New possibilities for limb preserving procedures by using surgery either alone or in combination with radiotherapy will be presented, with emphasis on the importance of tumour eharacterisics and growth patterns for the choice of the treatment modalities. An overview of chemotherapy studies both for metastatic diseases and in adjuvant setting is given, with special attention for new schedules with growth factors. When and how to treat lungmetastases is a final important and last question dealt with in this course.
