EUGENE N. MYERS INTERNATIONAL LECTURER ON HEAD AND NECK CANCER PROFESSOR KWANG HYUN KIM, MD, PHD

Professor Kwang Hyun Kim, MD, PhD, Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology at the Seoul National University College of Medicine in Seoul, Korea, graduated from Seonl National University in 1972. He received a master of science in otolaryngology in 1975 and a PhD in otolaryngology in 1980. After the completion of his formal training in otolaryngology, Dr Kim took a sabbatical from 1985-1987 to be a clinical fellow in head and neck surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Bonn in Germany under the supervision of Professor C. Herberhold. Dr Kim is well known both in Korea and internationally as a very hard-working, excellent head and neck surgeon with a particular interest in phonosurgery and surgery of the trachea. His contributions to the literature include 116 papers in national and 36 papers in international publications.

He is a member of many societies in Korea including the Korean Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the Korean Society for Head and Neck Oncology, and the Korean Cancer Research Association. He is also a member of the German Society for Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, has been a corresponding member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery since 1991, and is a corresponding member of the American Society for Head and Neck Surgery and the American Laryngological Association. Besides having a long history of providing high-quality health care, he is an avid teacher and astute researcher, and is well known to many of us. It is indeed a pleasure and honor for me to name Professor Kim as the Eugene N. Myers International Lecturer on Head and Neck Cancer in 2002.
