Everyone thinks of biometrics when they think about payments in the future.” • A Visa survey of 1,000 Americans has confirmed consumers have a strong interest in new biometric technologies. The study found 86% of consumers are interested in using biometrics to verify identity or to make payments, and more than 65% are already familiar with biometrics. Seven in 10 believe that biometrics are easier and 46% think they are more secure than using passwords or PINs.

Next was iris scanning (41%). Unisys global chief security architect, Salvatore Sinno, said: “Mobile device usage has brought biometrics to the mainstream. It’s good to see the public across Europe putting trust in this technology. In today’s environment it makes sense for organisations to have a multi-layered approach to security, to address new legislation such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and reassure the public and build trust between consumers and service providers.”

Nearly seven in 10 (68%) of individuals, from seven European countries, were more trusting of companies that use biometric checks.
