This is a publication of Pacific Area Travel Association (PATA) in collaboration with Tourism International Press. It is an assessment of the market for long-haul special interest travel from Europe to the PATA region, together with recommendations on co-operative action required to promote this market, and names and address of appropriate special interest organizations and publications. The purpose of this article is to examine the family aspect of tourism, the spiritual charge which tourism lays on the family, and the family dimension of the apostolate of tourism. The article begins with factual observations, presents an explanatory hypothesis, and then defines the possibilities existing in tourism and leisure time for helping to re-create the family. Finally, it outlines what seems to be essential for pastoral operation in order that these possibilities become realities. This article also appears in French and Italian.
