This book deals with the concept of sustainability, particularly from the perspective of city planning. Sustainable development is defined as the ability of the people and their representative organizations to sustain lifestyles which are compatible with continuous environmental integrity. Five of the eight chapters of the book are dedicated to the local issues. The last three chapters deal with land use planning, business and citizens as managers of sustainability. A careful reader will find little or no emphasis on infrastructure such as roads, schools, and hospitals. Apparently, the author does not consider human health to be an important segment of sustainabiltity as there is no discussion of that subject in the book.
