Methods: Twenty-three patients performed caudal block with morphine (Caudal group) and twenty-two patients without caudal block (Control group) who underwent lumbar spine surgery were analyzed retrospectively. Caudal block was performed with 0.3750.75%ropivacaine 5-10ml with 2-4mg morphine under general anaesthesia preoperatively. Results: The amount of postoperative analgesics was not significant different between the both groups (Caudal group: pentazosine11.4Å}2.7 (mg), NSAIDs 31.0Å}7.9, Control group 19.1Å}2.8, 20.5Å}6.3). Incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting in Caudal group was significantly more than in Control group. Conclusion: In this study we evaluated that caudal block with morphine was not significantly efficient on postoperative analgesia and the incidence of nausea and vomiting was significantly more than without caudal block with morphine in patients who underwent lumber spine surgery retrospectively. However, we considered furthermore prospective study was needed.
