73 ± 21 mm Hg, respectively. Serum calcium level in preeclampsia group is 8.12 ± 21 and in control group is 9.05 ± 0.22 mg/dl, that was significantly lower in preeclampsia (p < 0.01). Serum uric acid level in preeclampsia group is 5.03 ± 0.24 and in control group is 3.28 ± 0.26 mg/dl, that was significantly higher in preeclampsia (p < 0.01). Conclusion: The finding of this study describes that serum level of calcium and uric acid is beneficial in the timely detection of preeclampsia in pregnant woman and suggests the use of dietary calcium complementary. Methods: In this descriptive analytical study, sixty healthy male smokers and sixty male non-smokers (control group) were selected by a convenient sampling method and serum levels of nitrite, nitrate and MDA in all patients were determined and compared with together. Results: Serum nitrite and nitrate level in smokers is 10.4 ± 3.1 and 19.6 ± 5.9 and in non-smokers is 14.6 ± 4.4 (p< 0.001) and 29.3 ± 6.7 (p< 0.01) μmol/L, respectively, that was significantly lower in smokers. Serum MDA level in smokers is 11.7± 2.6 and in non-smokers is 8.3 ± 1.9 μmol/L, that was significantly higher in smokers (p< 0.001). Conclusion: The finding of this study describes that the serum level of nitrite and nitrate is lower and MDA is higher in smokers and this difference is related to CVD in smokers.

[email protected] (M. Jorfi) Introduction: Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-specific disorder with unknown etiology. There is many evidences that altered endothelial cell functions play an important role in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia. The aim of this study is to determine the level of serum nitrite, nitrate and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in preeclampsia. Methods: In this cross sectional study, the level of serum calcium and uric acid in two group of pregnant women that include 35 pregnant women with preeclampsia and 35 pregnant women with normal blood pressure (control group) in third trimester is assessed. Results: Systolic and diastolic blood pressure in preeclampsia group is 160± 15 and 104 ± 11 and in control group is 109 ± 28 and 73 ± 21 mm Hg, respectively. Serum nitrite and nitrate level in preeclampsia group is 12.6 ± 3.8 and 23.8 ± 8.6 and in control group is 8.7 ± 2.5 (p< 0.001) and 16.4 ± 5.4 (p< 0.01) μmol/L, respectively, that was significantly higher in preeclampsia. Serum MDA level in preeclampsia group is 9.7 ± 2.8 and in control group is 6.34 ± 1.6 μmol/L, that was significantly higher in preeclampsia (p< 0.001). Conclusion: The finding of this study describes that serum level of nitrite, nitrate and MDA is higher in preeclampsia and their increasing is responsible for their important role in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia. [email protected] (M. Jorfi) Introduction: Smokers are exposed to significant quantities of ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) and NO (Nitric Oxide), the primary vasodilator produced by endothelial cells, is affected by cigarette smoking. Cigarette smoking is associated with impaired endotheliumdependent vasodilatation and cardiovascular disease (CVD). The aim of this study is to determine the level of serum nitrite, nitrate and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in smokers.

[email protected] (M. Aberomand) Introduction: Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the main cause of deaths of adults in the wordwide and risk of developing CHD is correlated with increased levels of LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C). Because of expanded use of Friedwald formula in estimation of LDL-C in most laboratories in country, the aim of this study is the comparison of direct measurement of LDL-C method with LDL-C estimation of Friedwald formula. Materials and methods: In this study, total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), HDL-C and LDL-C of serum ard measured with “Pars azmun company” kits and also estimated LDL-C with Friedwald formula. Then results of direct method and estimated LDL-C with Friedwald formula compared with togethers. Results: From 598 individuals under study with mean range of age 38.08 ± 10.77 years, 226 individuals (37.8%) are males and 372 individuals (62.2%) are females. Mean deviation for TG≤ 150, 201–300 and 301–400 in Friedwald formula (k= 5) are respectively −13.01 ± 8.79, −17.11 ± 13.17 and −18.63 ± 18.54 and with k = 3 are −.39 ± 12.04, −0.078± 18.55 and 0.04± 25.55 and for TG between 151 and 200 is −9.72 ± 10.54 and with k = 3.5 is equal to 0.82 ± 13.70. Conclusion: Because of results in this study and differences in results of direct measurement and estimated LDL-C with Friedwald formula, suggested that use of corrected Friedwald formula in the manner that original k = 5 replaced with k = 3.
