S
panish-speaking people seeking a better understanding of recent advances in genetics and genomics have a new online resource just launched from the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). The Spanish “Talking Glossary of Genetics” is available free on NHGRI’s Web site at http://www.genome.gov/sglossary.cfm. The genetics glossary is an innovative combination of text, illustrations and audio commentary in an accessible, user-friendly format. Spanish-speaking genetic researchers at NHGRI contributed to both the written and spoken definitions in the new glossary. In addition, the glossary underwent rigorous review from experts and potential users alike. Featuring more than 150 terms, the glossary offers handy pronunciation guides, brief text definitions and dozens of richly illustrated diagrams of selected terms. The illustrations can be downloaded and printed without copyright restrictions by any user. Beyond its standard dictionarystyle definitions, the glossary also includes in-depth audio clips—spoken explanations—provided by Spanishspeaking genetic researchers. The audio clips can be heard in RealAudio, a common audio player compatible with most Internet browsers. The player can be downloaded for free on the glossary page at the NHGRI Web site. In addition to the online version, NHGRI is also making the Spanish glossary available, free of charge, as a limited-edition CD-ROM, to libraries and educators without access to the Internet. The CD-ROM works in both Windows and Macintosh formats. To request a CD-ROM, please contact Jeff Witherly, director, Office of Science Education at (301) 402-8564 or by email at

Call for Pilot Testers & Reviewers
Pharmaceutical Industry Launches Helpingpatients.org
A
new online database will help patients without prescription drug coverage access user-friendly information about more than 1,400 medicines offered free through patient assistance programs sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry and others, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America announced today. People who need help in obtaining medicines can log on to http://www.helpingpatients.org/, fill out an online form and receive a list of programs for which they may qualify. The site is particularly useful for Medicare beneficiaries without drug coverage, as these folks fill fewer prescriptions, which not only hurts patients but ends up costing the health care system more in the long run.

WHONN is seeking pilot testers and reviewers for upcoming continuing education monographs. The goal of pilot testing is to determine the number of contact hours that will be awarded for continuing education for the practice monograph in review. Pilot testers read drafts, take the test, and comment on the questions within a two- to three-week time frame. Additionally, AWHONN is seeking reviewers for continuing education products up for renewal. The goal of reviewing is to decide whether the information in the monograph remains valid, by evaluating the yearto-date information. Reviewers agree to work within a two- to three-week timeframe. Interested? Call Tracie Carthorne at (800) 673-8499, ext. 2431, or email at
