Conference Showcase Evonik Evonik presents new creative solutions for the growing composites industry at Com¨ sseldorf. posites Europe Exhibition, Du Evonik Industries is one of the world leaders in specialty chemicals and manufactures products used in almost all components of fiber-reinforced composites for applications in the aerospace, automotive, oil & gas and wind energy industries. They are providers of core materials for sandwich construction, thermoplastic and thermosetting resin matrices, crosslinkers, catalysts, impact strength modifiers, formulation components for fiber sizing and adhesives, as well as processing additives, thermoplastic UD-tapes and new PulPress Technology. Among these products is Evonik’s ROHACELL1 foam, used in lightweight sandwich construction for over 40 years by suppliers to the aircraft and automotive markets. Visitors to Evonik’s booth at the Composites Europe exhibition can examine an aircraft Flap Track Fairing demonstrator with a ROHACELL1 HERO foam core thermoshaped out of a flat sheet in only a few minutes. large, but very lightweight, fiber-reinforced composite parts. Evonik will also display ROHACELL1 Triple F in-mold foamed cores. These threedimensional cores are delivered as off-tool parts, with integrated metal inserts and a high-quality surface ready for the next step of processing. Triple F cores are used in AUDI’s new ultra-RTM processing technology, winner of a 2016 JEC Innovation Award and the 2016 CFK Valley Innovation Award. NANOPOX1 FW 404, an aqueous emulsion of NANOPOX1 F 400 (a concentrate of

silica nanoparticles in DGEBA), is a new component offered for fiber sizing formulations. Used in relatively small amounts, the sizing for both glass and carbon fibers provide improved laminate properties like enhanced fatigue performance and increased toughness at a low cost. Developers of Evonik’s recently developed ‘‘PulPress Technology’’ will be on hand to discuss this automated, continuous process technology for 3-D part production. It uniquely combines both pultrusion and press processes, and guarantees high production speeds, tight tolerances and excellent mechanical properties of finished parts. Thermoplastic UD-tapes from the new Evonik UD-tapeline will be another development exhibited during the show. High temperature matrix materials like HT-PA, PEEK and PA12 offer outstanding mechanical properties in combination with carbon or glass-fibers over a wide range of temperatures.
