Tea at .. Black Bull"; then Cocker Brook; Cocker Lump Mill to see W arinden Rock; Gaulkthorn to Oswaldtwistle. WalkiI'g distance, 7 miles.
Exoursion to Tolworth. Saturday, September 8th.
Director, ARTHUR WRIGLEY. Train from Waterloo at 1.50 p.m. to Surbiton, 2.11 p.m. Fare, 1/3 single, 2/6 return. Or by another train fI'om Waterloo at 1.60 p.m.. calling at Clapham Junction, 1.58; Wimbledon, 2.6. Surbiton, 2 17 p.m. Walk, or by tram (Id.) to .. Red Lion," Tolworth, and thence to the Tolworth Brick Works Co.'s pit in Red Lion Road. Here the party will examine a g-ood section of the top sandy beds of the London Clay. The weathering seen will be discus~ed in relation to the Claygate Beds mapped in a neighbouring hill. Fossils resembling those of Highgate are fairly common in the unweathered Clay; ample time will be allowed for collecting them. Tea will be arranged at Surbiton, whence trains frequently return to town.

Visit the Boro' Green Sand pit at the station, showing Folkestone Sand dipping north with nodule bed marking the junction of Gault and Lower Greensand. Walk through village of Bora' Green to Messrs. Pascal's pit at Platt. Folkestone Sands and Gault are here exposed with slight northerly dip. An excellent junction section marked by 3 ft. glauconitic sand with nodules and fOHsils indicating the mammiUatus zone can be obtained. Beds I, II, III of Gault are exposed in the northerly part of the pit. The FolkestonEl Sands in the southerly part of the pit are overlain by a deposit of brick earth and gravel. Proceed south·eastwards to Messrs. Chitt~nden & Simmond's quarry at Basted. The sparsely fossiliferous Hythe Beds are here horizontal. Walk through the Shode Valley which lies in a syncline of the Hythe B~ds, noting the powerful springs thrown out at the junction of the Hythe Beds with the Atherfield Clay. Discuss the relations of the Shod., and Darent. Walk to Old Soar. the site of a Wealden boring, noting small exposure in Hythe Beds to east of village. Return via Orouch, where extensive views of the Shade Valley may be obtained. Tea at Boro' Green. Bring lunch. Walking distance about 7 miles. REFERENOES. Maps -Geol. Survey, l·in.
