No uvelles de I'in dustrie F-Type towers for Nigeria Carter Cooling Towers are to deliver two F-Type towers for installation in Nigeria. The no. 132 F-Type is designed to cool 100 m 3 h- 1 from 55 to 32.2~C in an ambient air wet bulb temperature of 2 7 C , and has been specially designed with a timber splash packing to handle water with traces of fatty solids. The no. 30 F-Type is designed to cool 30 m 3 h - i from 55 to 30°C, it has polypropylene packing (chosen to withstand higher water temperatures) and an extra deep base tank. Both cooling towers are of the forced draught counterflow type, each incorporating a directly driven, duct axial fanset positioned on the side of the tower. To reduce packing and transport charges both towers will be delivered in an unassembled condition and erected by Simon Rosedowns Limited in Nigeria. Refrigerated cargo monitor To meet the Ship-owners Refrigerated Cargo Research Association (SRCRA) requirements for a system to control and monitor temperatures in containers at sea, Stonefield Systems have devised the Sentinel. Suitable for control of both clip-on and integral refrigeration units, the new Sentinel controller carries out pretrip inspection, temperature control, monitoring and display of alarm conditions, as well as data logging to long term memory. The controller itself is very compact and contained within a totally sealed enclosure. Pre-trip inspection is essential to ensure that the refrigeration unit is operating correctly for prevailing
weather conditions and that it will control correctly in both the chill and frozen range. To control air temperature during the voyage, the system maintains the set temperature within an accuracy of + 0.25°C in the chill range and +I-'C in the frozen range. It also automatically initiates evaporator defrosting and timed defrosting at four hour intervals. Displays on the front panel of the system indicate the defrost stage, compressor running temperature in range, the status of which may be read remotely. The Sentinel continuously monitors a total of 16 parameters. Should any of these deviate beyond a preset level an alarm sequence is initiated. Every four hours details of air temperatures, temperature set point changes, defrost cycles and alarms are logged to the memory. Sufficient memory is available for eighty days with a battery back up in the event of power failure. All information logged in the memory can be transferred to a cassette tape incorporated in the specially programmed portable interrogation unit. The voyages temperature log and pretrip inspection data can also be printed out on demand or, alternatively, the data can be transferred to a separate computer for analysis. Extensive trials have already been carried out by the SRCRA and the system is currently undergoing rigorous sea trials with major shipping companies who are members of the Association. ASA
Flowmaster
ASA Fiowmaster for airflow control The basis of an efficient and effective ventilation system is the accurate balancing of design air flow rates. This laborious and time consuming task can now be handled by the new ASA Flowmaster dampers from Barber & Colman Limited, which select the required flow rate from an instrument scale and adjust the air flow accordingly to the correct level, even in conditions of sudden pressure changes. With the ASA Flowmaster, balancing is quick and easy and air flow may be altered at any time. The new system offers flexibility and can provide and maintain correct air flow rates for effective ventilation. The operator can choose constant flow function, limited constant flow function, min-max flow function or self-balancing damper function. Further information on the ASA Flowmaster is available from Barber & Colman Limited. Barber & Colman Limited, Brooklands, Sale, Cheshire M33 IUL, UK.
