PATENTS bustion engine but, in particular, to a check valve that has an improved sealing member. A check valve is disclosed that has a housing which defines an internal cavity connected (in “fluid communication”) to a first and second port, and a first seat defined by a first elastomeric V-ring seal and a second seat. A check-valve plate, within the internal cavity is translatable, in response to pressure differentials, between a closed position against the first seat and an open position against the second seat. The first elastomeric V-ring seal includes a body that is fitted (interference) to an annular channel defined by the housing and a lip extending from the body in a direction that defines a generally V-shaped void, viewed in cross-section, opening in a direction away from, and generally perpendicular, to the flow through the elastomeric V-ring seal into the internal cavity. Sealing arrangement for a propeller shaft on board a vessel Applicant: ABB Oy, Finland The sealing arrangement that forms the subject of this patent has been designed to seal a propeller shaft on board a vessel. The propeller shaft is supported by at least one bearing. A water seal is positioned on the propeller shaft, and a first oil seal is also positioned on the shaft, adjacent to the bearing, at an axial distance from the water seal. An intermediate compartment that extends between the water seal and the first oil seal is filled with a gas. Also included are sensors for measuring the pressure of the sea water acting on the propeller shaft and for measuring the pressure of the gas within the intermediate compartment. A system pressurises the gas within the intermediate compartment. The pressure is maintained at a level that is lower than that of the sea water acting on the propeller shaft. Method for applying a seal to a plate Applicant: Splifar, Belgium This invention relates to a method for applying a seal to a plate – in particular to a plate having an imperfect shape. An edge of interest is defined on one portion of the plate on which the seal is to be applied. The plate is then placed on a tool – including a supporting element made from a solid material and a supporting element made from a flexible material – such that the edge of interest rests on a portion of the supporting element made from the flexible material. During the application of the seal (to the edge of interest) the plate is kept in a predetermined reference position and the element made of flexible material is pushed against the plate (perpendicular to an external surface of the element made of flexible material) – the external surface being opposite to the surface on which the edge of interest rests. Composite seal for a rapid fluid-transfer coupling Applicant: Hutchinson, France A composite annular seal has been developed for a rapid fluid-transfer coupling. It has a flexible body and rigid reinforcement. The seal, with the reinforcement, can be used for a coupling comprising a female tubular sleeve and a male tubular end-piece, mounted inside the sleeve, in order to produce overall static sealing between a recess in the sleeve and the end-piece. The seal consists of an inner axial wing that has a radially inner face, which has a radially innermost flexible peripheral portion designed to be applied tightly against the end-piece. It also includes an outer axial wing that has a flexible radially outer face, which is designed to be placed firmly against the recess, and a core connecting the inner wing to the outer wing. According to the patent describing this seal, the innermost peripheral portion is convex, with a rounded shape in the axial section.

Feed-through Applicant: Schott Ag, Germany This invention pertains to a feed-through within a housing part, in particular, for a battery or a capacitor made from metal. According to the patent, the housing part has at least one opening, through which at least one conductor is fed into a glass, or glass–ceramic material. The conductor has at least two sections in the axial direction – a first section made from a first material, for example, aluminium, and a second section made from a second material, such as copper, and a transition from the first to the second material. This transition is located in the region of the glass, or glass–ceramic material, which has been adapted to the metal of the housing in such a way that a compression glassto-metal seal is formed. Deluge valve Applicant: Bermad Cs Ltd, Israel This patent describes a valve for sealing and selectively opening a flow path from a waterfilled inlet to a dry outlet. The design includes a valve body with an opening surrounded by first and second annular valve seat regions. A drainage channel is connected to a space between these regions. A plug, which can be in an open or closed state, is applied to the valve opening. The plug has first and second annular seals for sealing against first and second annular valve seat regions, respectively. The second annular seal is flexible, and is deployed so that it closes prior to closure of the first annular seal. The second annular seal is elastically deformed so as to be pressed into contact with the second annular valve seat, when the plug reaches its closed state. When a “spike” occurs in the inlet pressure the second seal will remain in place even if the first one becomes detached. Patent number: WO/2016/075698 Inventors: Z.
