Ferro Corp., Cleveland, OH, USA has formed an Engineering Plastics Dept. within its Specialty Plastics Group and says it plans to intensify its involvement with such polymers as polycarbonate, polyphenylene sulphide, polyetherether ketone, polysulphone, and other high-end thermoplastics. Although Ferro does not polymerize such materials, it uses them as base resins for making colour concentrates and coloured, filled, and reinforced compounds.
The Polymers Division of Freeman Chemicals is to merge with DSM Resins UK at the beginning of 1990. The new company, which will trade as DSM Resins UK, will be based at Ellesmere Port and will operate in three product groups. The make-up will be: Construction Resins - unsaturated polyesters, gelcoats and Atlac resins. Coating Resins - liquid and powder coatings and printing ink resins. Compounds - SMC, DMC and NMC.
