Mann+Hummel expands in Czech Republic

M

ann+Hummel has extended its production facilities in Nová Ves, in the Czech Republic, to serve the growing automotive and industrial aftermarket and OE sectors in central and eastern Europe. The German company has officially opened two new production halls as well as storage and administrative areas at the Nová Ves site, covering a total area of around 9000 m2. The site was established in 1993. Today around 750 employees produce liquid filters for the automotive industry, air filters for the automotive and mechanical engineering industries, as well as filter elements for the aftermarket, under both its own MannFilter brand and private labels, at the Nová Ves facility. Mann+Hummel currently produces approximately 20 million filters per annum in the Czech Republic, exporting to Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. In addition to manufacturing, the Nová Ves site is also responsible for Mann-Filter sales in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. For further information, visit www.mann-hummel.com

Fiberweb trading in line with expectations

T

he Fiberweb board has confirmed that the company’s full year overall performance remains in line with expectations. In a pre-close trading statement, ahead of interim results for the six-month period ending 30 June 2007, which will be announced on 7 August 2007, Fiberweb said that progress in 2007 is expected to be weighted towards the second half of the year. As a result, Fiberweb continues to expect first half performance to be significantly behind last year’s. The board however is confident that significant overall progress will be evident in the second half of the year. Fiberweb has actively restructured its Americas Industrial business. As part of the restructuring, the company has decided to close the loss-making manufacturing line at Gray Court, South Carolina, which had a carrying value of around £20 million

at the end of 2006. The majority of sales from this line will be moved to the Old Hickory, Tennessee site. The company also reports good progress in customer qualification of products from Old Hickory containing recycled polyester, with successful completion likely early in the second half of 2007. Since Fiberweb’s April trading update, raw material prices have increased about 6% on the group’s earlier assumptions. The company cautions that if these levels are sustained or increase further during the second half of the year, then there will be a downward impact on Fiberweb’s profit for the year. Amiad sees strong trading ahead

A

miad Filtration Systems Ltd’s strong finish to 2006 has continued into the first half of this year, with trading up on the corresponding period last year in almost all parts of the business. In a trading statement delivered at the company’s annual general meeting, Amiad said that global investment in water filtration and treatment systems continues to increase, driven by tightening environmental and public health standards as well as rising demand for clean water. Industrial and municipal order levels across all major territories have been good for the company. Amiad says that its thread filters are seeing increased interest and that the comapany is continuing to make steady progress in desalination and the filtration of seawater for industrial use. In May, Amiad supplied its automatic filters to one of Scandinavia’s largest oil and gas companies for a mounted filtration solution for an oil drilling rig in the North Sea. It was also asked to supply a desalination system to convert sea water to potable water for Davis Research station in Antarctica. Trading conditions in the agricultural side have improved considerably after a downturn last year. As a result, revenues are expected to be around 15% higher for the first half of 2007 compared with the equivalent period last year. Looking ahead, the company is expecting to enter the second half of the year with an order backlog well up on last year, and is confident of achieving double digit growth on 2006’s second half.
