According to the company, up until now, it has only been possible to create filigree component geometries using liquid silicone rubber (LSR). The low viscosity of LSR enables complex geometries to be produced and long flow distances in tools to be achieved. These advantages also can be used to excellent effect in two-component parts. Liquid silicone does not meet all of the automotive industry’s resistance requirements. Transmission oils and engine oils in particular are not compatible with LSR, which means that in the past the use of silicones in engines or drive trains was either heavily restricted or not possible at all. 16

Sealing Technology
