Middle Eastern gas filtering contract According to Eurofiltec SA of France, it has recently delivered one of the world's largest industrial amine filtration plants to the Habshan Onshore Gas Installation in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in a contract worth £2.5 million. The 320 tonne filtration system comprising three units is designed for gas sweetening, using duplex pre-coat and activated carbon filters to remove impurities such as sulphur and metallic oxides. The company says it is capable of being operated with minimal manual intervention and the low number of moving parts to reduce operating and maintenance costs. The main filtration system is a pre-coat filter which has metallic plates upon which a cellulose filter aid is constantly applied as the filter medium to remove suspended solids. According to the company, this type of medium ensures a rating of 1 micron with an efficiency of 99%, even at high flow rates. The filtration cycle is said to be up to one month, depending on the level of solids being removed. The activated carbon filter is located downstream of the pre-eoat filter and is used to remove hydrocarbons and corrosion-inducing liquors, and to reduce foaming. This filtration system is the second installation delivered to the Habshan site; the first was installed in 1994. Eurofiltec now have 80 gas sweetening installations operating throughout world, and is a major supplier to the pharmaceutical, fine chemical and nuclear power markets.
